Do you need a device to clean your face?
It’s a question I ask myself every time a new facial cleanser hits the stands. In the past few years, the Swedish brand Foreo has carved its niche and firmly anchored itself in the beauty world as the facial cleansing device.
But I stayed clear because I am notoriously negligent about using beauty devices. Very cool.
However, I was recently given the opportunity to try this out Foreo Luna 3and after humming and hitting a little, I decided to say yes. What’s the point of being a beauty blogger if I’m not a little bit adventurous? What’s the point of being a beauty blogger when people prefer other media? LOL! 😛
But I digress.
After a while with the Foreo Luna 3, I have an opinion on this – and I’ve been encouraged to be honest, so be me! (I wonder if you will regret it) 😉
What is the Foreo Luna 3?
The Foreo Luna 3 is the 3rd iteration of the Luna facial cleanser and massager.
It’s a palm-sized device that is covered in soft silicone and feels comfortable to the touch.
Simply put, it helps you cleanse your face better.
The Foreo Luna 3 works with up to 8000 sound pulses that cleanse your skin better and deeper. This ensures that your skin is clean and your pores are cleared of sweat, dirt, and makeup.
Basically, it helps you wash your face. But is it good?
A comfortable size
I have to admit, the size surprised me the first time. It’s pretty big for someone with smaller hands like mine.
However, the surface of the bristles is quite large and the stiffness decreases from top to bottom. The bristles on top are thicker and longer and a little stiffer. The lower ones are shorter and noticeably softer.
How do you use the Foreo Luna 3?
Interestingly, you need to download the Foreo app before using it for the first time as the gadget will be paired with the app. This way you can control the intensity of the pulses from your phone. I left it at the default to see how it works.
The Foreo Luna 3 charges instantly and is said to be usable up to 650 times after each charge, which means I won’t charge it for a long time. LOL! But it comes with a charger. Make sure you keep it in a safe place as you won’t need it for a while (I may have lost mine by now!).
First, apply a facial cleanser to the device. I find that using a little more detergent than usual is better to provide a better cushion for the brush.
To use, press and hold the power button on the back of the gadget. A light will come on at the base of the device and it will begin to pulse / vibrate.
Place the silicone brushes on your skin and gently run them over your face. It will run for 1 minute as it takes that long to properly wash your face, they say.
In 15 second increments, you will feel a slight change in the vibration to indicate that you can move on to a new part of your face to cleanse.
If you’ve ever used the Clarisonic in the past I find this to be similar in function. The difference lies in the fact that you don’t have to replace brush heads and they don’t rotate / brush against your skin.
But now that Clarisonic has closed the shutters, it’s a little bit controversial
Does the Foreo Luna 3 clean your face better?
To be completely honest, it’s hard to tell.
You see, I use a washcloth / flannel in the evening to wash my face. I’ve been doing this for years, and to be honest, it’s fine for me.
I have also used Clarisonic in the past which has destroyed my skin from excessive exfoliation.

Understandably, I was therefore very suspicious of trying out the Foreo Luna 3. I was scared of exfoliating my skin again and then repairing it.
But I can safely say that I don’t think this is going to happen because the Foreo Luna 3’s bristles don’t repeatedly go over your skin like a brush. It vibrates / pulsates against your skin, but doesn’t brush it.
I found that my skin felt a little cleaner and smoother, but it was a little illusory as that’s how it feels after every wash with a flannel. However, many people who otherwise don’t use flannel have told me that their skin feels very clean and smooth after using the Foreo.
However, I find that my skin feels a lot drier when I use Foreo Luna 3 daily. Because of this, I only use it three times a week. I don’t double clean on days when I use Luna 3.
It makes my skin feel clean, especially after a long, sweaty day.
Does it clean my skin better than my hands as they claim?
I would say it is controversial. If you massage your skin adequately during the cleansing process and use suitable good quality cleansers, I think you’ll be doing enough cleansing every day. If you are the splash and are some kind of person then the Foreo Luna 3 will force you to slow down and make your skin cleaner.
Does it clean my skin better than a flannel?
I can’t measure it, but just because of the touch I would say it’s about the same. My skin feels just as clean after using the flannel as it did when using the Foreo Luna 3 and it doesn’t feel dry. The advantage of the Luna 3 is of course that I don’t have to have a fresh piece of flannel every day.
The disadvantage, of course, is the cost.
Is the Foreo Luna 3 worth the money?
That is a challenging question.
The Foreo Luna 3 is available at retail outlets RM920 | US $ 199. That is much. FROM. MONEY.
Is it worth the money
It depends how much you want it and many times you would use it.
If you wanted it to and are looking for ways to justify ownership, you already know the answer. Buy it.
But if you’re on the fence I’d say it depends a lot on your habits and how you are currently washing your face.
If you don’t double clean in the evening and don’t use proper cleansers, or if you wrinkled your face at the thought of cleaning your face at the end of the day no matter what time it is, then the Foreo Luna 3 may be the device you need . A minute to get your face really clean before applying your skin care regimen.
However, if you are a little more scrupulous, it could turn out to be a white elephant if you don’t use it on a daily basis. I belong in that category.
My suggestion if you are in this latter category is to use a flannel first for a month. If you can use a flannel to cleanse your face every night but want something a little more comfortable, you might be ready to invest in a Foreo Luna 3.
If you wear off after a while it may be a waste of money. Ultimately, you should be your best judge of character.
After trying the Foreo Luna 3, I’d say it’s a device I gave in and bought about 10-15 years ago that has oilier skin. I find such devices are great for oily skin as they cleanse the skin better.
I wouldn’t buy it today simply because I know I won’t get that much benefit from it. I like to use my flannels, which don’t cost a lot.
You would have to make this decision yourself 🙂
IN A NUTSHELL
The Foreo Luna 3 is a one-unit device with soft silicone bristles that vibrate / pulse against your skin to cleanse it. It takes 1 minute to cleanse your skin and the skin will feel clean and smooth. However, I find that it makes my skin feel a little drier if I use it too regularly. People with oily or combination skin may appreciate it better and may even benefit more from it. However, it is an expensive device. So think wisely before investing.

Do you own Foreo facial cleansing devices? Have you thought of getting one?
I know people who rave about it and how transformative it was, so I’m not going to take it off. It’s a decent facial cleanser if you’re into that sort of thing. I’m just not real 😛 But tell me if it worked for you!
