Hello my friends! I’m slowly bringing out some fall decor – the cozy atmosphere makes me so happy! It feels so much warmer in our house.
I shared my friend Marty’s post on decorating trays on Facebook a few weeks ago and was inspired by their lovely decor. I started thinking about how I could incorporate some trays into my fall decor.
I’m a lover of using trays in decorating – they corral things while looking good. They are an ideal way to organize smaller items that are out of place on themselves.
Last year I put the items I reach for the most in the kitchen in a tray on the counter:

And they’re a perfect way to organize remotes, coasters, and more on a coffee table:
I found a couple of trays that I loved at Target and got to work collecting some fall decor for the exhibit. I put this big wooden tray on the dining table:
Think outside the box when it comes to showing flowers (real or fake) – I had this decorative wooden pot but can’t put water in it. I used a small vase for the flowers and you can’t even see it. 😉
The amber glass was from Target last year and I put a battery operated candle (on a timer) in it. You must have some “glow” in autumn advertisements! It’s pretty much required. 😂
I also like to hide my glass candles in prettier containers – I found this gray planter in the Hobby lobby and let the candle inside. (We put it on the counter when it is lit because of the branches.)
This year I’m trying to use a little less of the traditional fall colors, i.e. these pretty artificial eucalyptus branches were perfect! They whisper the autumn mood instead of screaming it. 😉
There are three tips for decorating trays in any season:
1. Vary the height of the objects – a vase with flowers or twigs is perfect!
2. Use different textures and colors – the woven tray, tiny rosemary plant, and velvet squash add interest.
3. Decorate in Odd Numbers – Items collected in odd numbers are only more appealing to the eye.
These tips are great for decorating almost anything!
Do you use decorative trays in your decor? They are such an easy way to brighten up a room!
