The federal government has announced that state governments and school administrators can begin preparations for the full reopening of schools in the state. This was confirmed by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, announced during a briefing at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
Aliyu said educational institutions should start working towards a possible reopening at this stage.
He said states should conduct a risk assessment to ensure that all schools are compliant and put in place a monitoring mechanism to assess, create and monitor that readiness. In addition, educational institutions should remain closed for teaching until this risk has been assessed.
“And when schools do open, they need to be staged, and preferably phased, to ensure that it does not pose a risk to the general public, and particularly vulnerable groups who may be infected by students returning home. ” He explained.
