Brick and cross fill stitch Embroidery

Time for a new addition to my 100 Stitches Plus list.

This is the brick and cross fill stitch.

For my demonstration I use these color variations of pearl cotton silk:

This filling is worked in vertical columns from top to bottom and from left to right.

To begin with, I came through the fabric in the top left corner of the area to be filled:

I made four straight stitches:


I made a cross stitch under the four straight stitches:


Then another set of four straight stitches:


For the next column, I started and ended with the cross stitch:

And for the last column I repeated the steps from the first column:

So easy! Here’s a look at the bottom of the fabric:
