Y’all, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve shared and posted. Oh so much to tell! But today I’m just going to start with some of the changes I saw this summer.
We became empty nests and moved from Montana to northern Idaho. My husband has retired from training in MT and is able to take full retirement from MT (not enough to make a living from) and be headmaster in another state. Moving wasn’t necessarily the schedule, but Covid made it clear in May that it had to be the plan.
We kept our old schoolhouse in Montana (more on that soon) and bought a new, cute little house in our new hometown.
I’m just starting to decorate it and have more boxes to unpack (going from 5000 square feet to 1500 is a challenge, but good!). My new town has no natural gas, so propane, electric and wood stoves are the heat sources in winter. We hid a cute little wood stove in the wall.
It has a metal jacket that we’re going to put a piece of scrap wood on to make it a bit wider and longer, but for now I’ve decided to play with some thrift store finds to spice it up (you know Juuzsh, right?).
There are sockets etc above the mantelpiece for a TV, but we decided to convert one of the bedrooms into a TV room. I knew I wanted some wood, some texture, some color. I started with this thrift store card table that I found in a thrift store in my new town.
I used Wise Owl Furniture Salve to restore the natural beauty of the wood.
I placed two wicker candle holders on one side and two tall wooden coils on the other to ensure symmetry but not an exact match.
I tucked silver tray behind the coils and a thrift store color by number in front of the card table finished the look for now. I will definitely change my decor on the mantelpiece seasonally, but for now I’m happy with the flowers and the bit of blue.
I look forward to sharing new projects in a new home. Hope to inspire you to personalize your home.
