Brookfield Asset Management Inc. has named Mark Carney as vice chairman and head of investment for environmental, social, governance and impact funds.
Carney is currently the United Nations Special Representative on Climate Change and Finance and was formerly Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. He has long campaigned for action against climate change.
In the new role, he will work on developing a group of funds that Brookfield says combine positive social and environmental outcomes with strong risk-adjusted returns. “Building on our track record in renewable investments, Mark will help accelerate our efforts to combine better long-term results for society with strong risk-adjusted returns,” said Bruce Flatt, chief executive officer of the investment manager, in a statement.
“Mark’s insight and perspective will add tremendous value to our global investing activities for the benefit of our investors.”
