UNILAG: Buhari appoints John Momoh’s council chair as Ogunsola becomes first female VC : Nigerian Education

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Chairman of Channels TV, John Momoh, as Acting Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He is President of the UNILAG Alumni Association.

Momoh represents the body on the council.

The veteran journalist replaces Wale Babalakin, who was removed because of the institution’s leadership crisis.

Momoh’s appointment was signed by State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono.

In letter FME / PS / 606 / CI / III / 129 he was told to take the chair “in the absence of the substantive pro-chancellor / chairman of the council who had to withdraw according to the visitor’s policy”.

“Immediately afterwards, you must also present the visitor with a report on the decision of the council through the honorable Minister of Education.”

In the meantime, the Council met on Tuesday and confirmed the appointment of Prof. Folasade Ogunsola as acting Vice Chancellor.

The virtual meeting was chaired by Momoh.

Ogunsola, 58, is the first woman to have achieved this position since UNILAG was founded in 1962.
