Study trip of the Faculty of Health Sciences NRSG267
University of North Carolina, USA
In September 2019, I and 7 other nursing students from ACU locations across Australia attended the University of North Carolina. We were in Raleigh but we visited the main drag from Chapel Hill and there are lots of cafes. Chapel Hill itself was a beautiful town, largely dominated by the college campus, but full of life and energy and looking like it was something out of a fairy tale. Spend your time here strolling through lush green parks, watching presentations in their planetarium, and exploring the sprawling campus with its beautiful architecture.
Of all these different places and things to try, the Carolina Coffee Shop ought to be the most notable – a beautiful coffee shop that prides itself on being North Carolina’s oldest coffee shop, which has been and has been in operation for nearly a century. The cafe was the university’s biggest soccer game that day and was full of students and families dressed in their team’s colors. However, this did not prevent our servers from showing their famous southern hospitality.
During my stay, I really wanted to try something very American, and then I settled on the chicken and waffles. It’s not a combination that you often see in Australia, but it’s a southern staple in the United States of America. As you can see in the picture attached, the meal consisted of a delicious fried chicken fillet, served with thick golden waffles, cabbage vegetables, and a maple bourbon syrup. For $ 13, you got a fairly rich, delicious meal that mixes sweet and savory together perfectly.
I honestly hope I never get my hands on this recipe because I’m afraid I will never eat anything else again!
