President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Wale Babalakin, and the Vice Chancellor, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, to step aside.
Ben Goong, director of public relations for the Federal Ministry of Education, said so in a statement on Friday.
Babalakin and Ogundipe have been ordered to withdraw from the service “pending the outcome of the special visits panel set up by the president.”
The governing council had removed Ogundipe and appointed Theophilus Omololu Soyombo of the Faculty of Social Sciences as incumbent VC.
The Senate and the institution’s unions are against the sack.
The Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) accused Babalakin of acting above the law.
The University Vice Chancellor Committee (CVC) described Ogundipe’s removal as a “hatchet job”.
