Beamz is a unique app that has a lot to offer to users with an exceptionally wide range of ages and abilities. The app offers a learning mode where players can choose the correct answers to a variety of questions, a music video mode, and a do-it-yourself music playback mode. The app works as intended, but isn’t quite as intuitive as it is for new users. There was no indication that I needed to access the app’s free content by clicking the “Rhythm” button on the dashboard, and I had to do quite a bit of tinkering to figure that out. The tutorial videos were otherwise helpful, but this seemed like a huge amount of information to be missed and I’m still not sure where I missed it. Otherwise, once you get things going, this app is pretty fabulous.

This app has many unique learning components. The free version includes 8 teaching examples on topics such as the times twelve tables, a selection of preschool concepts such as initial sounds and opposites, an instrument identification game, and addition and subtraction within 20. These games follow a simple multiple choice format in which the user will be familiar with a question or a problem and can choose from four possible answers.

In addition, and what this app does best, users can choose from a wide variety of musical styles and instruments that play related riffs in unison, layering different types of rhythms. The creations can easily be recorded and played back at any time. There are countless studies linking music to different types of learning benefits. Whether you use the features of this app for practicing skills or creating musical masterpieces, users can only improve their results.

Finally, the app is absolutely ideal for therapeutic settings and other programs that work with a wide variety of customers with special needs. It was used to motivate reactions, to learn, control the environment, express feelings, and much more. All of these things are possible with the free app and an ipad, but these features are expanded exponentially with the use of the companion device, The Beamz Laser Controller. This includes laser beams that activate the app when broken. This encourages players to reach out and move around, which is sometimes a challenge with these populations. The full equipment package costs $ 249.95.

Users will love the creative parts of this app – almost every combination of instruments and rhythms is designed to create a comfortable piece of music, making it difficult to go wrong. The app records efforts and it’s easy to play back or even share. The videos that belong to each genre are also entertaining.

You can’t go wrong with a free app that has so much content. Beamz offers 16 music videos and 8 examples of educational games, plus the ability to play and record your own music in a variety of styles. Additional song playlists and educational games are available as in-app purchases between $ 4.99 and $ 14.99. There are over 90 educational songs and nearly 100 music videos in sets of 5 to 33 items per list.

Child friendliness

This is one area that the Beamz app could improve a bit. Currently, in-app purchases are only protected by your App Store password. Since the app is very accessible for young and vulnerable groups of the population, these things should be protected by an effective parent gate.
