The government of the State of Lagos instructed all SS3 and Technical Studies (TEC3) students in state day and boarding schools to resume on Monday, August 3, 2020.
Honorable Education Commissioner Ms. Folasade Adefisayo announced this on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in Alausa, Ikeja.
She said it would support revision classes and adequate preparation before the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Adefisayo noted that the decision was in line with federal government guidelines that drop-out classes across the country should return to revision classes before their upcoming exams on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
However, she said the policy had become essential due to the newly announced WASSCE 2020 appointment, scheduled to begin on August 17, 2020, from the West African Audit Council (WAEC).
According to her, “only SS3 and TEC3 students (Technical Study Three) may return to the day and boarding school for revision classes and exams on August 3”.
It urged all state schools to follow the public health guidelines and protocols required to reopen schools for this category of students.
Adefisayo also stressed that the government was considering the possibility of using first and second semester exam results or continuous assessment to encourage students in other dropout classes.
The Commissioner announced that various meetings with education, health and safety stakeholders have taken place to ensure that adequate precautions are taken to ensure the safety of students from readmission.
“The Office for Quality Assurance in Education will circumnavigate all schools across the state to monitor the level of security and compliance with protocols that are likely to be implemented by both private and public schools,” she said.
