Already in February, Etsy published a blog post entitled 7 wedding trends for 2020. At the time of writing, none of us predicted that the country would be closed due to COVID-19. Or that so many weddings would have to be postponed. For this reason, we think these wedding trends for 2020 will last longer than would normally be the case. Probably well into 2021! That is why we decided that now is the perfect time to discuss our thoughts on each trend.
The top 2020 wedding trends according to Etsy
Although we weren’t able to hold many of our weddings this year, we have planned many of them! We have seen couples planning to incorporate these 2020 wedding trends developed by Etsy, and we have so many ideas on how other couples could include them in their wedding.
1. Groovy gatherings
The first wedding trend Etsy has this year is inspired by the 70s. Think of records, disco balls and colorful flowers. How can you integrate these trends into your own wedding?
You can choose a boho wedding dress first. At our sister brand K & B Bridals – a wedding shop in downtown Bel Air, MD – there are numerous options to choose from! They wear Lillian West and All Who Wander – the perfect brands for a boho-y wedding in the 70s.
We also recommend colorful, fun flowers. This could be in your headgear, on your invitations, throughout the reception, on the groom’s tie … the possibilities are endless! The key is to improve the color theme – we recommend reds, yellows and greens for a real 70s atmosphere.
2. Non-traditional wedding celebrations
The next trend from Etsy is non-traditional wedding celebrations. We have seen that these are becoming more and more popular … is there still a “traditional” wedding celebration?
Many people choose to include dogs in their wedding – as ring bearers, groomsmen, flower girls … we saw everything!
In addition, many couples do without the traditional gender roles that accompany wedding celebrations. Nowadays, many brides have men on their side and many grooms have women on their side. These have created terms such as “honor man”, “best woman”, “groom woman” and “bride man”. We are all in favor of it and firmly believe in choosing the people who are closest to you in your life!
3. Power suits
Another wedding trend for 2020 that Etsy came up with is power suits for women! We think this is great for the various wedding parties you have – your bridal shower, your rehearsal dinner, your engagement party … and the list goes on. You can even wear one instead of your wedding dress or at least change one for the reception!
A white power suit is super slim and certainly a brave power move!
4. Vintage rings
Next we have vintage rings as a wedding trend for 2020. Vintage engagement rings and wedding rings are surely on the rise. Many brides and grooms love the fact that a popular ring symbolizes their lifelong commitment to each other … and many brides simply love the way they look! They are certainly unique and do not look like many other rings on the market today.
5. Wellness preferred
Another popular trend for weddings in 2020 is wellness favors. This includes soaps, bath salts, candles and much more. This is a great way to show your guests some TLC after a night of dancing and fun!
We also recommend small bottles of hand disinfectant as a gift. This is something that is in high demand today due to COVID, and it will really show guests that you care about their health and wellbeing!
6. Sustainable styles
Eco-conscious couples will love this trend … sustainable styles! These can be vintage pieces like a veil or recycled items like handcuffs or wedding rings. All of these things not only make you look good, they also help you feel good! What could be better than that?
7. Coordinated pair coats
Finally, Etsy’s last tip for the 2020 wedding trends is coordinated pair coats. What does that mean exactly?
Matching jackets are the Wedding trend for 2020 according to Etsy! These can be leather jackets or denim jackets. They are usually embroidered with cute couples sayings … like your new name with “Mr & Mrs”, “The One”, “Just Married” with your wedding date or “Hubby” and “Wifey”. The choice is yours and couples love the customization options!
These jackets will look great on the back of your sweetheart’s chair or head table during the wedding. After that, they’re a timeless piece that you can wear again and again … or frame them to hang on your wall!
What you should be aware of
Remember, just because something is a trend for the year doesn’t mean you to have to include them in your wedding. A trend is just that … a trend. You will inevitably go out of style, and if you are someone who likes to stay with the classics, do it! We believe that incorporating at least one trend gives every wedding a fun touch.
