As a home stager and broker, I am often asked how to create a bold focus in a room on a budget.
My answer: statement walls. Statement walls. Statement walls.
- Do you have a boring wall that you want to spice up?
- Do you need to divide up a large room?
- Do you want to highlight an amazing architectural feature?
- You only need to get a room to “WOW!” Accept?
The answer to all of these problems is a statement wall. I love the flexibility and creativity in creating statement or accent walls, as they are called. These walls usually mix color, texture and tone to create a conversation starter or center point in a room.
Here is one of my favorite statement walls from a past phase.
Here are some ideas to get your creative juices going.
This is the easiest way to create an instruction wall. Use a bold color to complement the hue on the other walls. You can mask an entire wall, half a wall, or even a random design and create a statement wall with geometric shapes.
Reclaimed vintage or barn wood can give a room a rustic feel. Wainscotting can add a touch of elegance. Other wood adds to the comfort of the room. Nowadays, all you have to do is look to your local hardware store to find easy-to-install panels that create the high-end look. Statement walls can also be created with things … Fill the room with art or photos, a huge map, heirlooms or even shelves. It’s a WOW way to bring things together that you love.
Sometimes color just doesn’t give the design factor you’re looking for. There are a million different types of stencils to choose from. I am a fan of stencils. I actually did it in my own house. Click here if you want to see how I did it and what you need to know to try it yourself.
Wallpaper is cool again. Did you know that? Background images are great if you want a more complex design. Some even incorporate texture into the paper, giving it an extra layer of pizza. If you’re worried about what happens when you’re tired of the wallpaper, you can opt for a temporary wallpaper. Yes, that’s one thing.
It’s simply fun. The intrigue of a dark accent wall with the whim of child’s play is a great combination in spaces like kitchens (write down a menu, update your grocery list or leave notes for the family) or children’s playrooms (let your imagination run wild). Heck, it also works in youth rooms or bonus rooms (think of an artistic office or play room)
