Nature in the city: Rouge, National Urban Park Women

When someone mentions a “national park”, people tend to think of large natural areas filled with trees, lakes or mountains. They certainly expect to be in a remote place that is far from the world – they certainly will Not Expect to be in one of Canada’s largest cities, but that’s where you’ll find Rouge National Urban Park – on Zoo Rd in Toronto!

Opened in 2015, Rouge has features that cannot be found anywhere else in the Toronto area, including some of the only farms managed, the only campground in Toronto, Carolinian ecosystems, the region’s largest marsh, and a beach on Lake Ontario. The area offers great hiking opportunities and is full of history to discover. So if you want to communicate with nature but don’t have time to leave the city, Rouge is the place for you!
