Disney’s Hollywood Studios are, in my opinion, the Disney Park that has undergone the most changes. And so much for the better! There was a time when Disney’s Hollywood Studios would have been the least popular park among families, but times have changed.
There is so much to enjoy with your family at Disney Hollywood Studios. From toddlers to preschoolers to teenagers and everyone in between, this Disney park is fantastic for families. Characters, great restaurants, well-themed countries and fantastic shows … it’s a “must” for your next Disney vacation! Today I’m going to share my favorite tips for visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios with kids!
Walking down Sunset Boulevard is breathtaking as you enter Hollywood Studios. The huge palm trees line the street that leads to the Chinese theater. You can’t help but feel a little bit struck by the stars and as if you were transported back to the early years of cinema and film.

While some of the park’s highlights are geared towards older children, the additional Toy Story Land and Disney Jr. offers make it fantastic for all of your children!
Where can I find great restaurants for my family at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Hollywood and Vine: This will always be my number one favorite at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is the only distinctive place at Hollywood Studios, and one thing I love about this place is that it serves all three meals of the day. For breakfast you can enjoy your friends from Disney Jr. For lunch and dinner, Minnie’s Seasonal Dine takes place in Hollywood and Vine for guests.
With these two options, guests see many changes as Disney likes to keep them up to date. If you have a young child, you know that Disney Jr.’s characters change over time, and Disney reflects this over breakfast with Play and Dine. We saw a number of Little Einstein’s, Handy Manny, Sofia and Doc McStuffins. For lunch and dinner, Minnie and her friends reflect on the current season. This place is especially fun in the fall and winter when they are in their seasonal costumes.
50s Prime Time Cafe: 50s Prime Time Cafe is so, so funny. This is a table service restaurant and good value if you pay out of pocket. I really like this place because it is fun for everyone in your family. Adults love it with the retro theme of the 50s. Children love the menu ~ fried chicken and milkshakes! This place is full of comfort food … so it’s one I personally enjoy when Florida is a little cooler.

Backlot Express: For a great quick service dining location, you can’t go wrong with Backlot Express. Disney’s Hollywood Studios aren’t known for their fantastic QS locations, but they do serve their guests. Backlot Express has a great menu. The seating is also very plentiful with indoor and outdoor options.
What characters can we meet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Disney’s Hollywood Studios have some unique characters. First, it’s the only place where you can meet your favorite Star Wars characters. BB8, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, Darth Vader and others are available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Guests can also meet Olaf at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! He is in his own meet & greet area that smells of summer! His area is right next to the FROZEN Singalong. The meet and greet is so cute. He is always happy to receive guests and gives you a card with his “autograph” … with sticks for the weapons it is difficult to sign autograph books!
Another unique meet and greet are the Disney Jr. characters. The Disney Jr. Singalong is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. After the show, some of your favorite Disney Jr. characters are waiting for you at the exit! These change frequently. So be sure to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to see who is showing.
Toy Story Land is the only place where you can meet Jessie and Woody together in one place. Buzz Lightyear meets at Hollywood Studios, but you can also find him in the Magic Kingdom. However, Woody and Jesse, as well as some Green Army men, are just outside Toy Story Midway Mania at Hollywood Studios.
What are the best attractions for kids at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
At the top of my list of Hollywood Studios attractions are Toy Story Land attractions. Once you enter Toy Story Land, you will find yourself in the Walt Disney World theme area. You feel like you’re in the middle of Andy’s back yard and want to stay the whole day!
One thing I really appreciate about Toy Story Land is that the attractions are a bit close together. This makes it easy to move around and enjoy some of them more than once. The whole family can ride Alien Swirling Saucers together. Think of it as a kind of mad tea party. It turns over the driving platform and makes it a cute and fun ride.
My absolute favorite ride is Slinky Dog Dash. Waiting times for this can be quite long, so it’s a good idea to go there in the morning or near the park. Keep in mind that the queue is mostly outside and not super shaded. So it can be hot. This roller coaster is relatively mild and very similar to the mine train of the seven dwarfs. It has a “low” height of 38 inches, making it fun for everyone.
You can’t go wrong either Toy Story Midway Mania. This classic is one that even my teenagers still love. While this is not a “new” attraction at Hollywood Studios, it fits perfectly with Toy Story Land.
The newest attraction Mickey and Minnies runaway railroad is found in the middle of the park. If you remember the Great Movie Ride, it resembles the facility and is in the same place! There are no height restrictions either, so it’s perfect for everyone! This is also the first Mickey and Minnie attraction in one of the Disney Parks. Definitely one for fans of the mouse!
This is also in the Hollywood Studios now famous Galaxy’s Edge. Even the youngest Star Wars fan will enjoy some time here! However, many of the attractions in Galaxy’s Edge are aimed at older children and adults. If we were traveling as a family we would probably split up here and one of us would enjoy Galaxy’s Edge with the older two while the other took the younger one for a snack, to see a show or to meet some characters.

Aside from Toy Story Land, there are still lots of fun things for kids! We love to enjoy the shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These give us time to rest and have a snack while enjoying some of our favorite Disney characters on stage.
An absolute favorite of ours The beauty and the beast live on stage. This is a seat for an outdoor amphitheater. So it can get hot somehow. However, most of the seating area is covered and there are fans. Everyone in our family enjoys this show. The music is perfect and the costumes are fantastic.
The FROZEN Singalong and Little Mermaid’s Journey are both indoor shows. Together with Beauty and the Beast, these give your princess fans a look at their favorites. The FROZEN Singalong is also funny and very well made!
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with careful planning, you can make the most of a parking ticket for families. We only ever needed one day in this park or hopped there for another half a day or so. It’s a great park to visit in the middle of your trip and maybe even hop to EPCOT before or after.
Did you know you can walk to EPCOT from Hollywood Studios? Or take a boat or the Skyliner? They are very close to each other. We often enjoy Hollywood Studios for most of the day and then go to EPCOT for dinner. Is your family planning a trip to Hollywood Studios?
