Lagos State seals 10 private schools for disregarding the blackout policy : Nigerian Education

The government of the State of Lagos has sealed ten private schools for violating the blocking directive that was put in place to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

This was announced on Friday, July 3, 2020, by the director general of the Lagos State Office for Quality Assurance in Education, Ms. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, while private schools were monitoring compliance with the blackout directive.

Ms. Seriki-Ayeni stated that a large number of private schools attended across the state met the requirements, but those that did not met were sealed.

She said that they held classes for a large group of students on the school premises without respecting the social distance regulations.

She added that the exercise would continue in all educational areas of the state to ensure that all schools complied with the government regulation and to discourage the nonchalant stance of some schools towards the directive.

“Without a doubt, COVID-19 has had a negative impact on our schools, but we want students to come out stronger and better.

“We want to make sure that the schools are closed. We also want to ensure that schools comply with the closure policy as the number of COVID-19 infections has increased dramatically over time, ”said Seriki-Ayeni.

She warned that any school that teaches and learns while trying to out-control government without caring about the health and safety of learners will be sealed.

Ms. Seriki-Ayeni urged the parents to follow the Lagos government’s instructions to stay safe and healthy by promoting soap hand washing, wearing masks in public places, and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

She also asked school owners to rethink the opportunities they currently have to train their staff through virtual training and webinars.

“This is the time to think and plan strategically to partner well with the government to get resources for your schools,” she said.
