The United Nations has launched an internal investigation after a video clip showing a couple having sex in a United States vehicle in Tel Aviv was broadcast on social media last week.
The video shows a woman in a red dress in the back seat of the vehicle – with a driver and a front passenger – on HaYarkon Street, one block from Tel Aviv’s boardwalk.
United States spokesman Stéphane Dujarric confirmed to reporters in New York on Friday afternoon that the less than 30-second clip shows personnel in the car that “probably the U.N. Truce Supervision Organization is assigned [UNTSO]. ”
UNTSO is the peacekeeping mission founded in Jerusalem in 1948 that, according to the United Nations, is to “monitor ceasefires, monitor ceasefire agreements and prevent military escalation”.
“We are shocked and deeply concerned about what can be seen on the video,” Dujarric said during a regular briefing to U.N.
“The behavior seen in it is hideous and contradicts everything we stand for and work to combat misconduct by United States employees,” Dujarric said of the footage, which was recorded by an anonymous source leaked Inner city press, a news agency that lost its U.N. accreditation in 2018.
Regardless, UNTSO also has one statement On Friday, he said, “The Mission is committed to the organization’s zero tolerance policy against all forms of misconduct, including sexual exploitation and abuse, and reminds its staff of its commitments to the United States Code of Conduct. As part of the Secretary General’s commitment to transparency, we will keep the media informed once the investigation is complete. “
According to the BBCIn 2019, there were 175 allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation under or against U.S. employees, 16 of which were justified, 15 were unfounded and the rest were still under investigation.
