- 1 box of Betty Crocker ™ Super Moist ™ white cake mix
- Water, vegetable oil and whole eggs are required on the cake mix box
- 1 1/4 teaspoon of Betty Crocker ™ red gel food coloring
- 1 1/4 teaspoon of Betty Crocker ™ blue gel food coloring
- 1/2 cup Betty Crocker ™ Rich and Creamy Vanilla Frosting (from a 16 oz container)
- 2 teaspoons of Betty Crocker ™ red, white and blue candy sprinkles if desired
- Heat the oven to 350 ° F. Generously spray 12-cup fluted tube cake tin with baking spray with flour.
In a large bowl, beat the cake mixture, water, oil and whole eggs with an electric mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes and scrape the bowl occasionally. Put 1 cup of dough in a small bowl; Stir in 1 teaspoon of the red food coloring until everything is mixed. Put 1 cup of dough in another small bowl; Stir in 1 teaspoon of the blue food coloring until everything is mixed.
Pour red cake batter into the bottom of the pan. Carefully pour the remaining white batter over the red batter in the pan. Carefully pour the blue batter over the white batter. (Blue dough doesn’t have to completely cover the white dough; it looks better if it just forms a ring in the middle of the white dough.)
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Take the cake out of the oven. Let stand for 10 minutes, take from the pan to the cooling shelf. Let cool completely, approx. 1 hour.
Place the cake on the cooling shelf over wax paper or parchment paper. Place 1/4 cup of the icing in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave uncovered at high for 10 to 15 seconds or until thin enough to drizzle over the cake. With a spoonful of drizzle, frosting warms up over cakes in a striped pattern. Spread the rest of the frosting over 2 small microwaveable bowls. Stir 1/4 teaspoon of red food coloring into 1 bowl until everything is well mixed. Microwave uncovered at high for 5 to 10 seconds or until thin enough to drizzle. Drizzle over the cake. Repeat with the remaining bowl of frosting and 1/4 teaspoon of blue food coloring. Sprinkle with sweets. Leave for 30 minutes or until the icing is firm. Store loosely covered at room temperature.
When adding dough to the pan, do not mix with a spoon. Simply pour it in so that the colors do not mix, but rest in a pan on top of each other.

Do you know the candy that the recipe requires you to sprinkle over it? Are you old enough to remember pop rock candy?
