Dubai is known for its luxury and extravagance, but the city’s culture and history are just as interesting as the artificial monuments like the Burj Khalifa, the Burj al Arab that you see today.
If you are a resident who has not yet explored, use this time outdoors to visit the Dubai Museum and learn all about the city’s origins and people’s lives at a time when everything is from the desert was covered.
The Dubai Museum is located in Al Fahidi Fort, which was originally built in 1787 but was used as a home by the ruler in 1896. It served the monarch’s rulers as a home, garrison, prison and weapons store during this period. In 1971, the fort and its artifacts were preserved by Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and converted into a museum.
The Dubai Museum is one of the city’s oldest museums, Bur Dubai. The entire area around this landmark consists of traditional buildings with wind towers and courtyards that have been restored to their original Arabic design. In addition to this attraction, there are also Dubai souks and Dubai Creek.
Exhibitions in the museum
Perhaps the most popular exhibit in the entire museum is the depiction of pearl diving and a selection of collection items such as weights, sieves and scales used by pearl dealers. In the oasis wing there are several exhibited artifacts made of copper, mud and alabaster. In addition to the tools for the early pearl trade, some artifacts come from several grave digs that show the simple life of the Arabs during this period.
Unique displays and galleries
Some of the most notable exhibits are pottery and animal figures. The museum has a wing called the Fortification Wing, which is dedicated only to ancient weapons, including spears, curved daggers, shields, and pistols. The folklore wing highlights the cultural items that were significant at the time, while the galleries in the museum include Arabic houses, the souk, date farms, and even videos that show the development of life and culture in Dubai.
