NYSC strategy for the safe reopening of orientation camps.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is pursuing a strategy to safely and efficiently conduct its operations before the restrictions on socio-economic activities in the country are lifted.
This was announced by NYSC Director General Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim during a courtesy visit to his counterpart at the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, in Abuja with.
Ibrahim informed the NCDC chairman that NYSC had suspended the 2020 Batch “A” Stream One orientation course only one week after the start of the exercise to prevent COVID-19 from spreading to one of the orientation camps.
He said he was aware of the possibility of further or complete lifting of the block, that the strategies developed by NYSC management had dealt with different scenarios and would be submitted to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 via the NCDC for guidance.
DG NYSC added that the suspended batch-a-stream-one orientation course for 2020 would be complete if the program received the green light from the PTF.
In response, the NCDC Director General, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, the NYSC, for supporting the fight against coronavirus through the activities of the Corps members.
Ihekweazu, who praised the program’s contributions to the country’s unity and development, stressed that any form of support deserved to be successful and assured that the NYSC’s proposals would be reviewed and recommendations addressed to the relevant authorities.
