Darayavus the King says: I did that after becoming king. A son of Kurus (Cyrus), Kambujiya (Cambyses) by name, from our family – he was king of this Kambujiya. There was a brother named Bardiya (Smerdis) who had the same mother and father as Kambujiya. After that, Kambujiya killed this Bardiya. When Kambujiya killed Bardiya, people did not know that Bardiya had been killed. After that, Kambujiya went to Mudrayam (Egypt). After Kambujiya went to Mudrayam, people got angry afterwards. After that, the lie (Drauga) grew big in the country, both in Parsaiy (Persia) and Madaiy (Mada) and in the other provinces.

Daryavus the King says: This kingdom that Gaumata of Maga Kambujiya (Cambyses) took away, this kingdom from long ago belonged to our family. Afterwards Gaumata took the magician Kambujiya; he took Persia as well as Madea and the other provinces, he made them his own, he became king.

Daryavus the King says: There was no man, neither a Persian nor a Meder, nor anyone in our family who could deprive this Gaumata, the magician, of the kingdom. People were very afraid of him and thought that he would kill the people who had previously known Bardiya (Smerdis) in numbers; For this reason, he would kill people “so that they would not know me that I am not Bardiya, the Kurus’ son.”

Nobody dared to say anything about Gaumata the magician until I came. Then I looked for the help of Ahuramazda. Ahuramazda helped me. Ten days had passed from the month of #Bagayadi, then I killed with a few men that Gaumata, the magician, and those who were his main followers. A fortress called Sikayauvati, a district called Nisaya, in Medea – here I killed him. I took the kingdom from him. Through Ahuramazda’s favor, I became king. Ahuramazda gave me the kingdom.

Darayavus the King says: The kingdom that was taken from our family that I put in its place. I have restored it to its foundation. As before, I created the sanctuaries that Gaumata the magician destroyed. I restored the willows and herds, the house slaves and the houses that Gaumata the magician had taken from them. I have restored the people on their basis, both Persia and the media and other provinces. I still brought back what had been taken away. With the favor of Auramazda, I did this: I tried until I restored our royal house on its foundations as before. So I tried to please Auramazda that Gaumata, the magician, did not remove our royal house.

King Darayavus says: I did that after becoming king. King Darius says: After I killed Gaumata, the Magum, a certain man named Avajanam, the son of Upadarma, caused a rebellion in Uvja (Elam) and said to the people of Uvja: “I am king in Uvja. “Then the people of Uvja (Elam) became rebellious and they went over to this ÃÅ¡Å¡ina: he became king in Elam. And a certain Babirusiya (Babylonian) named Nadita Baira (Nidintuba), the son of Ainairahya, released rebellion in Babirus (Babylon): He lied to the people and said, “I am Nebuchadnezzar, the son of Naditabairam (Nabonidus).” Then the whole province of Babylonia passed to Ainairahya, and Babylonia rose up in rebellion Kingdom of Babylonia [3 October 522 BCE].
