5th June 2019, Bhubaneswar: IIT Bhubaneswar organized a plantation tour within campus on the eve of World Environment Day to promote green culture and promote a greener ecosystem. In addition, the residents of the campus should be offered an environmentally friendly atmosphere, whereby the social distance parameters must be observed by Covid-19. The trip was initiated by Prof. RV Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar.
With this initiative we want to create a good feeling for social responsibility towards our mother nature and environmental friendliness. We at IIT Bhubaneswar are committed to building a green campus. We have had pretty good success in this endeavor, and it will remain so. With such initiatives, we would like to set an example and, in particular, motivate the residents to contribute to environmental protection as active stakeholders who want to give something back to our mother nature by contributing to a sustainable ecosystem. I am sure that this initiative would help raise awareness of the importance of growing trees to prevent global warming and thus reduce pollution. At IIT Bhubaneswar, we are also researching environmentally friendly technologies that aim to reduce the carbon footprint not only when developing a product, but also when using the product“Said Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, director, IIT Bhubaneswar.
The planting of the trees was successfully carried out according to the planned schedule. Many plant seedlings of various types and sizes were planted during the plantation trip. The members of the institute, the faculties, the employees, their respective families and students took an active part in the plantation. Prof. V. R. Pedireddi, Dean Student Affairs, also took part in the campaign.
Dr. Srinivas Bhaskar, Pic (horticulture) and Col (Dr.) Subodh Kumar, Chancellor along with other faculties and staff.
Today’s event made the faculty, staff and residents feel closely connected to nature in their efforts to create a greener campus. Bhubaneswar, the seed for social and ecological responsibility that was sown at the Indian Institute of Technology, will surely bear fruit and go a long way in the near future.
