While we’re going on summer vacation and many of us are still at home, I’ve put together a summary of creative, fun, and mostly free STEM activities that your kids can do at home. I’ve added a number of options for you to choose from. Here you will find experiments, scientific activities, practical projects, games, live webinars, instructional videos and much more!

Do you want to keep your teenager active this summer? Get ideas on how to engage your teen Summer STEM projects at home. Think about whether you want to volunteer – this is a wonderful way for students to put their technical skills to good use. I just wrote a post about STEM volunteering with lots of ideas and opportunities for young people. Finally explore the possibility of Publication of scientific research results at JEI, a free science journal and a virtual mentoring program for young people who want to publish their research results in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

MassRobotics and Mass Tech Collaborative jointly produce a new student-led virtual series called Robot Stories. The series shows the MA-based icons of the robot industry, Laurie Leshin, Colin Angle, Helen Greiner and Marc Raibert, who are interviewed by local students. These weekly STIN webinars offer viewers the inside stories of well-known robotics in Massachusetts and the opportunity to interact with them about the future of robotics. Vidcode runs freely Virtual coding clubs Every Tuesday, children from the age of 11 learn to program with a community. Students learn JavaScript programming through creative projects. You can also learn independently with Vidcode’s creative coding courses. Log in to vidcode.com.

Middle school students are invited to attend one Fun design challenge with the opportunity to present their designs through that Boston Children’s Museum. This free distance learning opportunity is about the future of construction, a webinar series with Suffolk Construction, Autodesk, MassRobotics and others about how the construction industry is changing as new technologies like robotics, 3D printing and more are integrated. Take part in an entertaining design challenge to reshape the city’s future!

TechGirlz hosts free virtual workshops for girls in grades 6-8 on computer programming, cybersecurity, and web design and creation.

Be valid Girls Who Codes Virtual summer immersion program for an unforgettable summer experience! During this two-week virtual program, students learn the IT skills required to make an impact, gain insight into the technology field, and join a supportive lifelong sisterhood – all while practicing virtually from influential companies like AT&T , Goldman, hosted Sachs, Disney, and more. I recently had the opportunity to speak to Jessica Sanon, CEO and founder of, who was born in Boston sySTEMic flow. Jessica is passionate about supporting and building economic capacity for women of color who are pursuing careers in the MINT sector. sySTEMic flow will host an online training session on July 18th. This session offers students 3 fun STEM activities that your kids can work from the comfort of their own home. MassBay Community College will host one on-line Summer STEM sampler workshop Open on Thursday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at Zoom for all students, teachers or administrators. Students are introduced to the STEM department’s academic programs and extracurricular offerings and learn what types of jobs they can get with MassBay STEM degrees. The chairs of the MINT department (engineering, natural sciences, biotechnology and computer science) and the director of the MINT starter academy will introduce themselves, followed by an interactive question and answer session. Haripriya Mehta, MIT grad (EE and CS) and president of the MIT Society of Women Engineers teaches for six weeks Bootcamp for learning virtual machines for students this summer. The course is similar to the introductory machine learning course at MIT and includes other coding concepts that are expected by engineers, but are not necessarily formally taught. Check the curriculum and apply by June 10th. Applications will be checked based on availability. Program cost: $ 600.

After all, we played a lot of games in my family during quarantine, and our new favorite game is Racko, a fast card game from 8 years.
