7 stories of old women who turned out to be TRUE

Whether you think of some of these sayings as words to live by, or if you’ve always considered them to be your mother’s or grandmother’s fables, a surprising amount of old woman’s stories are actually justified. Sure, the original message may have been obscured by nuanced parables or patronizing rhymes, but here are some of the most useful old woman stories to watch out for.

1. One apple a day keeps the doctor away.

This is perhaps the most common saying when it comes to scolding a mother. All you crave is a biscuit or a couple of crispy potato chips, and what stops you from indulging in something (or at least making you feel more guilty) is this simple and easy saying. This little health advice is not only very easy to remember, but also conveys the exact meaning of a nutritious apple in your diet.

Apples contain soluble fibers that promote blood health, boron, which shows the way for strong bones, a cancer-inhibiting flavonoid called quercetin, vitamin C and phytonutrients that work against heart diseases and diabetes. There’s no reason not to find a delicious, crispy apple every day.

2. Chicken soup / bone broth heals colds and other diseases.

chicken soupMany of us grew up with chicken soup to relieve colds, flu, and basically everything that slowed us down. I have always referred to this product as a cultural practice or simply as a fact that it is warm and tasty. This is of course a reassuring option! Lately this whole chicken soup has made a lot more sense as a treatment.

Bone broth has finally reached the mainstream, and the benefits of a hearty broth-based chicken soup are hard to ignore. Bone broth benefits from reduced inflammation, and chicken contains cysteine, an amino acid that thins the mucus and removes it from your system. It also tastes delicious.

3. Red sky at night, sailors fly. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.

I remember my mother always predicting the weather when we went to school in the morning. If the sky was ever colored red, she would recite these lines and sure enough, the rain would come later in the day. It is no coincidence that the color of the sky can determine the weather.

The Library of Congress (Source) The science behind this phenomenon gives us: A red sky at night is caused by the fact that sun rays are filtered through a large amount of dust, which indicates high pressure and stable conditions and leads to good weather. A red morning sky indicates that this good weather is over and that low pressure systems and rain may be on the way. The unpredictable predictions of the nightly news are not necessary. Switch to the sky to see if you need to pack your umbrella for the day ahead.

4. Full moons drive people a little crazy.

Full moon A full moon is a joy for vampires. a werewolf night in the city, and also where we get the term “insane” (Luna is the Latin prefix for moon). And you have probably noticed that the people around you are going crazy or maybe even on … Rand, there is often a full moon that seems to be shining light on the world. Is it a coincidence that cultures around the world have praised the full moon with horror and power?

There can only be one explanation. Scientists have argued about the moon’s ability to disrupt our water molecule balance as the ocean tides do. While this theory has largely been deflowered, some offer a much simpler and more sensible explanation: It’s hard to sleep on a full moon.

The brightness of the evening sky shone in front of technology in the early nights and led people to unpredictable behavior due to sleep deprivation. Of course, it’s not an airtight explanation for today, but if you ask a police officer, emergency worker, or school teacher how crazy it can be at work under a full moon, that should be convincing enough.

5. Ice cream gives you nightmares.

This is a general saying that my grandmother used to tell me. First I believed her and then I thought that maybe she said just that to stop me from having one last sugary treat! Ok, we all know that ice cream is not a healthy food and that no one can really blame my grandma for saving me from a less than healthy snack before going to bed … but nightmares ?!

It is sad but true. Eating or drinking sugary or caffeinated treats before bed leads to a shift in metabolism that activates all sorts of signals in your body and especially in your brain. This additional activity can then lead to more vivid dreams.

6. Yawning is contagious.

For many of us, empirical evidence is enough to prove this saying true. It all happened to us when at the end of the night everyone was so tired that we didn’t just say goodbye, we just passed around a good yawn or two. The history and science behind this event has been in the works of our species for a while. A deep-rooted communication reaction triggers this chain reaction, and in fact the same phenomenon occurs in chimpanzees. We are subconsciously connected by an imitation mechanism that has been developed in the course of our development.

7. Fish is brain food.

Before your big meeting at work to refuel for an important test, or only when you’re feeling a little bored, fish is great food for your brain. You’ve heard it all before, and now here’s the science: fish like salmon, tuna, sardines, herring, and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that restore and strengthen our brain cells. These healthy acids also help strengthen your brain cells from disease. So go ahead and eat up for your intelligence!
