Obioma appointed new NECO registrar : Nigerian Education

Godswill Obioma Appointed New Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examinations Council (NECO).

This marks the end of the two-year controversy surrounding the leadership of the audit committee since the former registrar Charles Uwakwe was suspended and later dismissed.

When Uwakwe was initially suspended in May 2018, Abubakar Gana was the acting registrar of NECO.

President Muhammadu Buhari agreed to Obioma’s appointment and took office on Friday.

A statement provided by Azeez Sani, head of NECO’s information and public relations department noted that the appointment was dated May 15, 2020 and signed by Education Minister Adamu Adamu.

The letter said, “The appointment for an initial term of five years will take effect from May 14, 2020.”

Obioma, professor of educational measurement and evaluation at the University of Jos, was previously, among other things, executive secretary of the Nigerian Council for Educational Research and Development.

His last national mandate before appointment is as the Ebonyi State Resident Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Godswill Obioma as Registrar / Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council.

A letter dated May 15, 2020, reference number: FME / PS / 396 / C1 / 1/134, signed by Education Minister Mallam Adamu Adamu, stated that the appointment was for an initial five-year term. takes effect on May 14, 2020.

“Obioma was born on December 12, 1953 as a professor for educational measurement and evaluation and comes from the Bende region in the state of Abia. The Chancellor officially took over the affairs of the Council from former Acting Chancellor Mallam Abubakar Gana at the Council’s headquarters in Minna on Friday 22 May 2020.

“He was a former executive secretary of the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council.

“Prof. Obioma has held other key positions in the education sector, including: Director, Monitoring, Research and Statistics, National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB); Director of Monitoring and Assessment Universal Basic Education Program; Director of Monitoring and Assessment National Commission for Primary Education and Head of Science, Mathematics and Technology at the University of Jos.

“Until his appointment as registrar / CE of NECO, Prof. Obioma was the Ebonyi-based commissioner of the independent national election commission.

“As a learned scholar, Prof. Obioma has many scientific publications to his credit. He is married and blessed with children. “
