Last month (April 2020), the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said that people living in the British capital should wear non-medical / non-surgical face masks every time they use public transport to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.
He also said that people should wear fabric face covers when performing other tasks that involve interacting with the public, such as shopping.
For this to be effective, the face covering should protect your nose and mouth for the entire duration of your trip or shopping spree.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson also confirmed that the public may be asked to wear face masks if the blocking measures and rules are relaxed:
“As part of the lockdown, I think face coverings will be useful, both for epidemiological reasons and to give people the confidence that they can work again.”

Does a face mask prevent coronavirus?
As stated by WHO, the World Health Organization, “Masks are only effective when used in combination with frequent hand washing with alcohol-based hand rubs or soap and water.”
Even if you wear a face mask, it is still very important that you continue to abide by the rules of social distance and hygiene in order to reduce the spread, e.g. B. Wash your hands regularly and keep a distance of 2 meters from others. Don’t just rely on the fabric mask to protect yourself from Covid-19 or other diseases.
Are reusable face masks hygienic?
Reusable face masks are only hygienic if used properly.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends that you wash your face mask at least once a day.
If you have worn your mask while shopping or using public transport, you should wash it immediately after you return. Do not reuse them the next day without washing them.
