Last month, the Medical Council of India, together with Niti Aayog, published the guidelines for telemedicine in India. The move, which took almost 7 years and longer, has created a new paradigm for the provision of remote patient care.
While many technology solution providers have started offering this as a platform, the Telemedicine Society of India has started a program to register all platform providers for telemedicine.
The best way to do this is to register in this Google Forms document. Link is provided here.
Bharat Gera, The EX CIO St. Johns Hospital in Bangalore led this study and evaluation. According to the study, the main goal is
“The aim of the study is to compile a repository of providers of telemedicine solutions and to assess their suitability for healthcare providers in India in accordance with TPG and NDHB.”
The categories are
TELE-CONSULTATION-required immediately to avoid patients visiting OPD during Covid19 and to avoid exposing healthcare workers and between patients to infection. These can be doctor-to-patient, doctor-to-nurse, doctor-to-doctor and doctor-to-medic, etc.
TELE-ICU AND OTHER TELE SERVICES AT THE
HOSPITAL to minimize exposure of healthcare workers to Covid19 cases and to optimize the deployment of experienced staff.
MONITORING AND ADVICE TO REMOTE PATIENTS
Because patients are unable to leave their homes, many chronic patients need to be monitored by a clinical team remotely and cared for as much as possible at home.
SPECIALIZED TELEVISIONS WITH DEVICES AND
NETWORKS services such as teleradiology, telecardiology, telepathology, telepsychiatry, etc., which enable remote diagnosis and therapeutic support and interventions such as these, improve the ability to cope with patient stress and access to specialized clinicians.
Telemedicine is a key component in the history of India Healthcare. It remains to be seen how this would grow and which would cover the great need for care, particularly in rural parts of the country.
