His Holiness the Dalai Lama has shared his advice on combating the coronavirus in a new article on time Magazines websiteand urged that “prayer is not enough” and “we all have a responsibility to exercise compassion and help”.

His Holiness touches how Buddhists believe that the whole world is interdependent, and the corona virus brings this to light. “The outbreak of this terrible corona virus has shown that what happens to one person can soon affect every other being,” he writes the potential to help many. “

As members of a global community, His Holiness writes, we all have a responsibility to help where we can. He also stressed the importance of not losing hope of helping the most needy and recalled that everything is volatile – including the pandemic we are in.

“I believe in the principle of impermanence,” he writes. “At some point this virus will go away because I have seen wars and other terrible threats in my life, and we will have the opportunity to rebuild our global community, as we have often done.”

“In this time of uncertainty, it is important that we do not lose hope and confidence in the constructive effort that so many are making.”
