Is your garage your family’s garbage dump for sports equipment, seasonal clothing and accessories, tools and everything else under the sun? That often makes it a big challenge, to say the least, to keep it neat and tidy. Although it may seem daunting, there are a number of things you can do to organize your garage and all of your storage. This blog introduces three simple things you can do to organize your garage.
- Use the walls as storage
One of the problems with organizing a garage is that there are so many different items that are shaped differently and weigh different amounts. It can be difficult to keep something like a shovel because it’s so oddly shaped. Where would it go anyway? Hang objects such as shovels, bicycles, rakes, hoses and other devices on the walls of your garage. This not only clears all bulky, unusually shaped items, but also gives you easy access when needed. You no longer have to worry about constantly maneuvering around all these big items. With these things, you now have a lot more space to keep everything else that needs to be stored.
- Use drawers and label them
We are sure that you will keep objects of different sizes in your garage. One way to do this effectively is to use drawers. Sort everything you have that needs to be saved by item. Then put each item in the appropriate drawer. This can be anything from nails and screws to power tools to other hardware. Then buy a label printer and label all drawers. This solves two problems for you: 1) you now have a place to store all your things, and 2) since it is labeled, you always know where to go to get what you are looking for.
- Use containers and baskets
Another great organizational hack is to use bins and baskets wherever possible. The goal is to keep the baskets organized and not just throw in random trash. Buy a few baskets and then look at the items you need to keep. If it’s easier to keep them in a container or basket, go ahead. Then you can label them so you can remember what is in them. Containers and baskets fit well on shelves. So install shelves on your walls or get several shelves. Place them next to your garage walls, fill them with your organized containers and baskets and off you go!
Now you have an extremely well organized garage and all it took was three easy steps! Your garage may be the best organized garage on the block! What do you think? Are you organizing your garage using one of these methods? We wish you the best of luck on your organizational trip!
