Mercedes F1 and UCL breathing aid approved for NHS use
With the global shortage of ventilators used across healthcare, the need for new ventilators in the fight against COVID-19 is paramount. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices are already used in some of the worst affected areas, such as Italy and China, but are now being used by clinicians from the University College London Hospital (UCLH). and Mercedes F1 have worked with UCL engineers to develop tools for the NHS. The devices provide oxygen to the lungs without the need for a ventilator. This should help coronavirus patients to leave the intensive care unit.
