How to make a simple no-sew tutu for kids
A simple and easy-to-follow tutorial on how to make a tutu for children without sewing. Can also be easily adapted for adults.
Measure your child’s waist.
Subtract 8-9 cm from this measurement. Sew or knot the elastic here.
Measure from your child’s waist to the length you want for the tutu. Double this length and add 2.5 cm. This is the length of the tulle you need to cut.
Cut several lengths of tulle. The skirt for our 2 year old in the pictures took 1 role and for the tallest 2 (4 years).
With the ribbon cut lengths, the 1.5 cm is shorter to switch between the tulle lengths on the skirt.
Wrap your elastic around the back of a chair to make it easier to add tulle and ribbons.
Fold the tulle or ribbon in half and place it behind the elastic with the loop at the top.
Bring the loop over the front and pass the ends through the loop. This will secure the tulle or ribbon in place.
Repeat around the rubber band. For a fuller tutu, you can later add more tulle and ribbons into another.
Once you’re done, you can use a trim along the bottom to look for loose ends or bits that are pulling.
Now your child can wear it and have fun
