So I originally wrote this post about a week ago. In the meantime, Emirates has announced that all flights have been suspended, the UAE government has closed the airports, and we will cut our salaries for the next 3 months. It’s certainly crazy and unprecedented times, and I’m lucky enough to have another job.
I know of so many airlines that have ceased or ceased operations, and since most of the world is locked, the travel industry has certainly had great success.
When I wrote this, I still had all my flights on my roster, but they disappeared day by day and I had “days available”. As of March, half of these destinations are those to which we are temporarily no longer flying. I’m sure this will take longer than we all think, but we can hope that some flights may be postponed in April.
This is what my roster looked like when I got it a few weeks ago … I haven’t had any of these flights yet!
- BRU – Brussels Belgium
- WAW – Warsaw, Poland
- REST – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (trend reversal)
- MUC – Munich, Germany
- DAC – Dhaka, Bangladesh
- BAH – Bahrain, Bahrain (turnaround)
- parts list – Bombay, India (turnaround)
- ATH – EEA – Athens, Greece and Newark, USA
I was actually really looking forward to some of these trips – especially the multi-sector Athens Newark, which I have never done before. Unfortunately, that was one of the first to be deleted from my roster.
I should have made a trip to JFK at the end of March, but that has also disappeared, and I am now in quarantine at home. UAE law requires us to be in quarantine for 14 days after our arrival from our last flight, which means we don’t even have to go to the supermarket or do sports.
I’m trying to make the best of it and tried to do a daily workout from YouTube (although I can send you good workouts!), Experimenting with cooking new recipes and of course lots of Netflix!
In the meantime, all we can do is stay strong and hope that we can get our wings back soon and come back better than ever.
