The Bible says in James 4: 8: “Approach God and he will approach you.” I believe that in times like this we have to approach God like never before. The coronavirus situation has affected us all in one way or another, and some more than others. On a personal level, I had plans, some smaller ones and some fairly large ones, canceled or postponed, and I can’t do anything about it. I’ve heard the word “unprecedented” so many times in the past few weeks that I’ve lost the count. Life as we know it has changed and the future seems very uncertain for many. But as Christians we have hope because we serve a God who doesn’t change.
The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13: 8). We can trust in Him and His character, and we can trust that He will not leave us at this time or ever. You may be one of the people with more time available over the next few weeks and months. You may be wondering what you will do with it all the time. Why not take the opportunity to get closer to God? Why not use this time to reflect and search for God’s face? What does God say to you? God always speaks and unfortunately he sometimes needs something important to get our attention. So why not ask God, “What are you telling me personally at this point in time?”
God has a specific plan for each of our lives and we can only find out what that plan is if we are closely related to it. Life is so busy, and if we allow it, the busyness of life can distract us from what’s most important. Maybe God is calling you at a time of silence. Perhaps he says to you: “You have been on the hamster wheel too long and now is the time to get out.” I encourage you to take some time each day to spend with God – read the Bible and pray. Get a daily prayer if you don’t already have one. You can start with just 10 minutes a day. Read some Bible verses and ask God what he tells you through these verses. God speaks to all of us in different ways, but if you have a thought, write it down. If you have a question, write it down and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the answer and trust that he will.
At the moment you may be scared or feel insecure. You might be concerned about what the future holds. But this year I believe that God wants us to only get closer to him. And if we do that, we will find that he is more than able to take away all our fears, worries and fears and give us peace.
