March 13 Destinations: Koh Phangan
on the blog
Thailand does not need fan tariffs as a visitor destination. Whatever you’re looking for, be it hedonism, serenity or spiritual discovery, Thailand has never failed to please. With the sun and sand in the shine and neon and everything in between, every visitor to the land of smiles leaves a little bit of it in themselves.
There is a lot to discover and enjoy throughout the kingdom, and potential visitors should not overlook the island treasures that shape the blue waters of Thailand. The large islands such as Phuket and Samui have been largely commercialized and have lost the “island feeling” that was once part of their original attraction.
There is an island that is part of the Chumphon archipelago in the Gulf of Thailand that has a wide appeal and has preserved its island intimacy, Koh Phangan. The island is located just north of Koh Samui, east of Thailand’s southern isthmus. Koh Phangan is easy to reach from the mainland or through its larger neighbors and is the perfect mix of nature, culture, tradition and modernity.
Koh Phangan, beaches galore
Some of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand are located on the beautiful coast of Koh Phangan. A perfect example of the contrast of the island on the beaches are Thong Nai Pan Noi and its neighbor Thong Nai Pan Yai. Noi and Yai mean small and large, respectively. Visiting Thong Nai Pan Noi is a chill-out experience. Relaxing, charging and thinking are the order of the day. The beach has traditional bungalows and luxury villas, as well as relaxed restaurants and bars. There is no glamor and glamor here, just relaxed tradition.
The larger neighbor of Thong Nai Pan Yai has a somewhat more optimistic infrastructure with numerous restaurants and bars. It is also an ideal starting point for visits to the nearby waterfalls and for walks in the forest. The spectacle of sunrise from Thong Nai Pan Yai is said to be second to none, and at sunset there is yoga on the beach.
Malibu Beach in the village of Chalk Lam is a popular beach with extensive facilities for visitors. Lots of shade from palm trees, beautiful blue water and the unusual phenomenon of lush green trees that grow directly from the pure white sand make the beach of Malibu a pleasant travel destination for visitors.
A traditional cooking school and a relaxing yoga retreat are within easy walking distance. Haad Salad or “Salad Beach”. A small bay, this is a quiet, remote destination, perfect for reflective relaxation. With some affordable beach restaurants, this is one of the quietest beaches on the island.
At the southeast tip of the island is the more optimistic and lively destination Rin Nok Beach. With an infrastructure that is more geared towards the hedonistic visitor, there are restaurants on and around this beach destination that cater to all and louder bars. Jet skiing is popular and the traditional full moon party takes place on the beach once a month.
Beyond the beach
From party beaches to quiet, tranquil contemplations, Koh Phangan’s beaches have something for everyone. But the island is more than just a beach vacation. There are high quality spas to relax and rejuvenate. Herbal treatments, massages and meditations bring body and mind together in a harmony of serenity. The Banyan Tree and the Natural Wing Spa are just two.
Explorers can take a full-day cruise to discover Ang Thong Marine Park. Ang Thong means “gold bowl”. The Marine Park consists of 42 islands and offers some of the best photo opportunities in the whole land of smiles. Amazing rock formations and lush green forests rise from the deep blue sea in a way that only nature can imagine.
If you like a challenge, Challenge Phangan Water Park is the place for you. Imagine an attack course and stage it at the idyllic Sweet Water Lake, which lies between the bays of Sri Thanu and Chao Phao on the west coast. Then you have an exciting, entertaining adventure that is both challenging and entertaining.
Take a hike to the highest point on the island, Khao Ra, a 627 m high mountain just north of the island center. Experience the sounds and smells of the fertile jungle and marvel at the breathtaking views along the ascent.
A must for retailers is the Thong Sala night market on the west coast of the island, locally known as the Phantip market. Locally produced goods can be haggled and there are the most delicious local delicacies to devour. The food is international too and offers such as sushi and even pizza. Experience everything Koh Phangan has to offer through a trustworthy agent like Samui ferryand are enriched by the unique attraction of the island.
