I recently read a Facebook thread about jeans and someone gave a funny comment that they and their friends affectionately refer to skinny jeans as “leg prisons”. While I don’t think so with most of the pairs I own, I can definitely appreciate the desire to wear something less restrictive from time to time. There are so many spring denim trends that I just can’t get on board with (I look at you, acid wash), but when express I admitted and asked to try her high waisted mom jeans. I admit I was intrigued. I took the plunge and today I give you my full review!
Technically speaking, mom jeans are defined as classic no-stretch or low-stretch denim with a high waist, straight fit and tapered leg. Some of you may have written them off immediately (like me!) Because you haven’t found a style that fits your body shape or you didn’t think you could pull them off. Well, I’m here to prove that you can rock them by showing you three ways to wear this vintage-inspired silhouette. Regardless of what you might think, this is possibly the most comfortable, versatile, and flattering denim you’ve ever worn! Hopefully this post will inspire you to give your skinny jeans a break and feel more relaxed.
One of my favorite ways to wear jeans is to style them with more elegant, polished pieces – think of structured blazers (such as This or This) sequins and top, I think it offers the perfect high / low contrast and immediately gives it a cool atmosphere. This boucle jacket has a high-end designer feeling and the length is just right to combine these high waisted jeans, It’s a gorgeous piece, but luckily if you want to buy it for less money express regularly carries out promotions on their website. When it comes to what types of Shoes I think that sneakers, flats, mules and pumps go best with mom jeans. Since they have a loose cut, the most flattering thing is when the smallest part of your ankle is visible. This helps lengthen your legs so you don’t want to cut it off by wearing a sandal or wedge with a thick ankle strap. To attempt these cap toe slingbacks. these v-cut mules. these suede loafers or these square sandals,
I combined them with one for a more relaxed feeling casual sweater & comfortable mules (I have had these since last year and have been wearing them all the time!) Since these jeans have a more relaxed fit, it is really important to define the waist so that your proportions are not lost. Whatever you choose to pair with them, you want to be sure that you are bending forward, full, or front, or knotting your top aside. You can also add a belt for even more definition – try it This classic double ring belt. this western belt. This tortoiseshell buckle belt or this polished bare belt,
One thing i love Express jeans is that almost all of them are short, long, and petite too, so you’re sure to find the best fit for your frame. For reference I’m 5’8 “and I have this in a regular (they run normally) – it doesn’t appear in the product details on their website so I measured them for you and they are 25″ inseam with an 11 ” It is so important to know your shape and know what works for you. I recommend taking a pair of jeans that you love and writing down the details of your inseam and ascent so you know what measurements you need to find a good fit (this is especially helpful when ordering online). The same cut as the one I’m wearing here also comes in a dark wash and in white with a raw hem – just ordered and can’t wait for them to arrive!
GIRLS OUT NIGHT
Although I love a high waist, the problem I had with most of the “mom jeans” I’ve tried was that they made my butt appear long and flat – not exactly the look I was aiming for. What distinguishes them is the yoke in the back (the part of the jeans between the waistband and pockets) – the deep V-shaped seam creates a flattering silhouette that accentuates your curves … or conveys the illusion of them when you need them. Even my husband, who expressed contempt for this denim style, said that it immediately changed his mind and declared it to be date-dead!
This puff sleeve sweater is tailored and slightly trimmed, therefore perfect for storage (also available in black). Add a knotted headband, some jewelry & you can get started! I would throw one in cold weather shortened moto jacket on top of that to give it a little advantage. More tops with this denim style for a casual evening: this asymmetrical sweater. This top bodysuit. this tie blouse or This ribbed square neck top,
