Why I chose overseas and why you should too! – Notes from abroad Study Abroad

Studying a topic intensively on the ACU Rome Campus for two weeks was an experience like no other and one that I can recommend to others at any time. I chose overseas for many reasons, some of them to immerse myself in a different culture, to see a part of the world that I had never had before, and to make a bunch of new friends.

Italy, and Rome in particular, has always been a place I wanted to travel to. When I saw that there was an opportunity to go there with my course, I knew I couldn’t miss it. Although we were mainly there to study, we had so many opportunities to see all the beautiful cities. I spent much of my free time walking through the incredible streets of Trastevere – where the campus is located – venturing further into the city and exploring all the famous sights such as the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. We were also lucky enough to immerse ourselves in the incredible Catholic history and culture of Rome, which included attending a papal mass and a wonderful visit to St. Peter’s Church.

Rome is such a beautiful city that has so much to do both day and night and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to see it as I do and with so many amazing people. Studying overseas allowed me to meet and make friends with so many wonderful people that I probably wouldn’t have had the privilege of meeting them otherwise. In the two weeks we spent together, we all got very close and created some unforgettable memories together. Hopefully we will stay in touch now and remain friends for many years.

All in all, it is an opportunity to study a subject or to spend a semester abroad. I had the absolute time of my life and I know you will too. You have the opportunity to explore a beautiful city and immerse yourself in its culture. If you are as lucky as I am, you can meet some incredible people along the way. It is an experience that I will never regret and that I wish I could experience again and again. You will absolutely love it.
