The shy purple margarita is my recipe of the day, as I celebrate Valentine’s Day and Margarita weekend with some of my bloggers.

I don’t often post alc. bevvies since most of it falls to my husband who writes Drinkable pastime, with a range of cocktail recipes and beer articles and reviews. Still, I’m a pretty crazy scientist behind the bar. I just can’t find enough time to post them because I’m constantly behind on posting recipes.

Yes, I’m a mad scientist!

And this recipe is one of my little scientific experiments, and I hope you like it. I was hoping to have a little purple ornament in the photo, but the one I saw for sale? The people who take care of these have black thumbs that are worse than mine because I tend to kill every flowering plant I touch.

However, I am adept at arranging flowers and have taught courses in general floral design as well as in Ikebana. But I don’t have time for classes either, or I would probably give cooking classes. You know that my photos may look like they were pulled through the mud, but the recipes themselves are not bad. Not that bad.

Violets are blue

You might think I would like to use blue curacao here – but depending on the brand, it adds a shade of green. It also changes the taste a bit and I just preferred to use a nice triple second, although Grand Marnier does it well too. I liked the photos on this drink – the beautiful blue color came through and popped.

The purple liqueur is called “The Bitter Truth” and is more expensive than other brands, and I certainly cannot vouch for them because I only used this one. I used the non-alcoholic Monin violet syrup for lemonade and flavored water, but not in this drink itself. And although that’s not alcoholic, draining the liqueur doesn’t make this drink non-alcoholic, of course. I can’t help you there. It is what it is.

I used Tequila El Espolon blanco tequila for the sampling. We hold different brands of tequila for sipping and other things, but as an all-purpose margarita mixer, this brand is one of our favorite brands.

There is not much else to say but be careful, because they go down quickly. I occasionally adjust the sweetness with powdered sugar, depending on the condition of the lime juice, but this one had less and I didn’t think it was needed.

The little tweaks

You decide because it’s easy to customize. I was also told that I make strong drinks (I don’t think so, but …). If you’re not sure, take half of the amount and add more tequila until you’re sure instead of watering it down. If you use a good shaker with the crushed ice, a drink will always be diluted a little.

Happy Valentines Day!

Enjoy a nice Valentine’s Day weekend full of romance and loud enjoyment. Don’t behave yourself. I would not. 😉
