4 (very cool) New York City Teens Review Fashion Week Fashion

Back in September, we asked 12 teenagers from New York City to tell us what they were wearing on the first day of school. Her answers about her own style were thoughtful, fun, and surprising – so much so that we decided to ask four of the most fashion-obsessed among them to return to Man Repeller’s headquarters and consider New York Fashion Week. For good reason, we asked her to wear outfits that are also inspired by her favorite runway looks. (Her pictures were taken again by her boyfriend and teen photographer Olivia wine.)

Read on to see what looks you’ve put together – and find out what you think about the clothes that were sent down the runway.

Okay, let’s talk about your outfits. What look did you choose and how did you recreate it?

Jian-Hong

Jian: There were a couple of looks that I somehow combined into one look. The coach show in particular had a lot of trenches and layers and sneakers, and I like that – I like the juxtaposition of elegant trenches and casual sneakers. The silhouettes were a bit oversized, not very tailored, and that’s how I usually dress, so I thought I would use that as inspiration. The Stanford sweatshirt actually belongs to my grandfather. It is cute and I am wearing it for the first time. I just put it on and I think it looks good with the color of the trench.

Nico

Nico: I watched the Palm Angels Show just because I didn’t like many of the others. I also just bought this jacket and the show had a lot of fringe so I thought it was perfect. And I also had this shirt with all the patchwork on it. So I just thought I would put everything together. The models wore these large diamond chains, which I thought was cool with the western theme – as Jian said about the side by side.

Ellison

Acne Studios via Vogue Runway

Ellison: So mine is inspired by the Acne Studios collection that just took place in Paris. This time, they used artificial intelligence to laser cut prints and create new floral designs. They used all these beautiful earth tones and there was this [beautiful] Dress that was paisley – then I found this shirt at Goodwill last night for $ 3! I wear the belt because they used different types of textures that just fused so nicely into a coherent show. I was really in love with her. And mine Telfar Jacket has all of these cutouts and you can remove the sleeves. There were a lot of plants on the Acne Studio show with interesting asymmetrical cutouts, so I figured why not?

Bella

Isabella: I looked at Instagram of New York Fashion Week because I wasn’t up to date with all the shows and I saw that there was a show that Bella Hadid did, and I really liked it, it was more of a floral look , Rodarte! I saw the dark lip there – I don’t usually do that. I wanted to stand out from the last photo shoot and do a darker look. I really like the whole power suit look, so I decided to wear a completely black suit – this is actually my brother’s, so it’s oversized for me – and shoes from this cool brand called Funtasma, which have different shades of beige. I just wanted something really bold and eye-catching.

How much attention do you usually give to New York Fashion Week in 1-10 scale?

Jian: 6
Nico: 7
Ellison: 10
Isabella: 6

You mentioned earlier that your interest in the runway shows has waned because you are more interested in street style and participant style. Who are you paying attention to?

Jian: I can’t determine a person for sure, but it’s cool to see everyone lay their slopes on runway parts that they wear to the actual show. Bella raised Bella Hadid, I feel like I always love her style, but I don’t pay attention to one person all the time. I love to see new people and their quirky or new style.

Ellison: I have a few that have stayed with me since I started my style… @Avanope.

Nico: Yes!

Ellison: I met her when she was working at the opening ceremony, then she worked as Helmut Lang’s online creative director – I followed the whole MoMA thing, the Gucci thing that she did herself. I love her so much. And then Sami Miró Who is revising vintage – their Pyer Moss and Burberry show outfits from the fashion week in September? Killed me. Likewise Anaa SaberOur second skin, their stuff is ridiculous, I love them so much.

Nico: For me there are actually not many female influencers, although I love Ava and have been following her for a long time. I like to follow men’s fashion and what they wear for fashion week. I feel like there are certain womenswear trends that I don’t see again and again, and I think they are more flexible in menswear. There’s a guy Gully Guy Leo-he is cool.

Ellison: Yes! I think Rick Owens and Eckhaus Latta and some of these unisex designers are helping to expand that. For a while it was just jeans and t-shirts and it’s like … I don’t wanna wear this shit! I think there are many places to go and it’s growing.

Bella: I have to look at my Instagram feed. There are so many people I look at, but I can’t remember their names. Last night my friend sent me a really cool red look, this girl who had red eyes everywhere. There are so many influencers who wear things that are better than what can be seen on the show.

Finally, we’d love to see you capture some of the bigger moments during the week. Let’s look at some photos and you can share your thoughts.

This Christopher John Rogers dress won Instagram, right?

[Everyone gasps]
Ellison: Keep New York New! York! Oh my God. I think he’s one of the people who maintain New York’s integrity as a fashion city.
Nico: Yes. It is beautiful and feels structured at the same time. It is simply elegant.
Jian: It is like modern and traditional at the same time.
Bella: I loved the hair so much.
Ellison: Everything is just beautiful.

Many priestly collars were sent down the runway. Thoughts?

Ellison: [ponders] No thanks.
Nico: Yes, that will be a no for me. I mean, do your thing, but.
Bella: I still like the second one, the Peter Pan style.
Jian: I actually like the other one. I like it to look puffy, but I don’t know if it really is?

Thick socks and open shoes had a moment with Rachel Comey.

Bella: I don’t even have to see it. Yes.
Ellison: Yes and yes.
Nico: I like the thick socks. I’ve often worn them with loafers, but I don’t know how to wear them with open shoes.
Jian: I like it with a really thin, strapped heel, mostly showing the sock.

Do you like clogs

Sies Marjan

Nico: I mean, I’m Dutch, so I’m kind of to the congested [laughs]
Ellison: I think how he did it was pretty, but I don’t know anything about normal clothes. It goes to art.
Nico: Not every day, but …
Jian: That’s how I feel about so many things. But it looks really good with the outfits.

There was a lot of mullet at Fashion Week. What do you think?

Ellison: Ooooh, Alyssa in town!
Nico: I like mullet on girls. I was going to get one when I got my hair cut recently, but I kicked it off and got layers instead.
Jian: I think they look sexy in girls, but I don’t like them in men.

Veils were one thing.

Rodarte

All: Yes!
Jian: I love that.
Bella: I love that.
Ellison: I am with it.

Consistently “yes” on veil?

Bella: I wanted to wear one today!
Ellison: [Conspiratorially] You should have!
Bella: I just couldn’t find one at home through which you could see my makeup.
