Spectris Innovation Center / studies
Text description of the architects. The design of the facilities of the Spectris Innovation Center Porto was presented as a self-inflicted exercise. The lack of referential context caused by the decision to expand one of the existing buildings into a completely inactive connected storage space was the starting point for the investigation of the internal occupation and an external building as well as for the design and functioning dynamics between the several Contact areas of both lots.
The privileged location next to Porto Airport, the metro and the highways helped to decide to occupy the neighboring building. The approximately 650 square meter ensemble is characterized by its arrangement in a rectangular warehouse, the longitudinal axis of which is oriented to the northeast and southwest and the central aisle is a main aisle. The division is vertical and takes place on 02 floors in the area of the old offices (north) and access to a back yard terrace with approx. 500 sqm (south).
The entrance is the first functional unit that defines the symbiosis between the past and the desired innovation in the present. This is the prerequisite on which the creative concept for the project is supported by an ambitious program to create and distribute around 60 open jobs in a fusion of meeting areas, team work areas, individual rooms and the expected decompression and free time. The central open space thus articulates the community in spaces for encounters and for teamwork in a convergence of uses, functions and clear standards for residents and visitors.
The conference rooms follow this scale in relation to and in the occupancy of the available space: starting from the auditorium as a generating element of various rooms (in and of themselves, in the environment, own and even excess ones), which are combined with the delimitation and structuring containers (authorized access control officer) and upper floor limitation) and as a structural element for team growth on the upper floor, supported by these preliminary bases. The scale also follows the standard definition of the range of uses with micro-contact points at which we can expand the primary performance range individually or in groups.
Maximum performance means a break, relaxation and sometimes an escape. The placement of the dining room in the back yard suggests exactly this moment of meditation and contemplation, whether through the presence of the collective or the individual, the outside space is appropriate and in which we can breathe freely. The connection between the fitness room and the playroom justifies the individual circumstances of each individual workplace and the sustainable attitude to comfort and well-being in modern office spaces.
As a connecting element of the entire room, we present the + system, which defines areas, functions and moods.
