In recent years there has been a trend to switch from a shoulder-based diaper bag to a more trendy mother’s backpack.
It is simply not pleasant to have a huge diaper bag hanging on your shoulder while trying to carry a baby and to keep an infant from reaching his hand in a public toilet trash can.
Not to mention that if you carry a diaper bag on your shoulder you will lose a lot of movement in that arm and it is damn hard to do without giving you the muscle building workout that brings you these fantastic mother arms that we promised became part of having children.
That’s why I’m behind the upturn in diaper backpacks on the market. They are functional, easy to carry and trendy when everyone comes out.
I used a more traditional shoulder diaper bag for my first child. But as a second mother, I knew better and was given a (pair) mother’s backpack.
I tried different options before making my choice and rounded up my top pick for the best backpacks for mothers. I have used strict criteria for functionality, style and comfort so you can be sure that you are getting the best of the best when you change from diaper bag to diaper backpack.
The best mom backpacks
The Miss Fong diaper backpack is my bag. I even used it as my personal bag when I travel. There are several different styles, but this one has a back pocket that can be opened so that you can keep the bag by the handle of your rolling luggage.
There is enough storage space in this backpack and the straps do not dig into your shoulders, no matter how many diapers or packs of puffs you put in them. There are pockets for almost everything and there are two insulated pockets that are great for bottles or a travel pot of coffee.
The inside of this bag is also made of “wipeable” material, which has served me well several times. You can get this mother backpack in 11 different colors.
The freshly picked classic diaper bag is another very popular mom backpack. Wipe clean material inside and out and there are a lot of different colors (even a super cute leopard print).
The straps of this backpack are not very wide and I found them a little uncomfortable at times, but you could definitely take this backpack a few times at the zoo.
This bag offers a lot of space and fits perfectly to an organized mother.
For the FP diaper bag, the price is the biggest disadvantage for me. At $ 175, I found it a little expensive – but since you use your diaper bag almost every day, you will definitely get your money’s worth.
The Honest Company City Backpack is another great option for mother backpacks. This fits more like the backpacks you took to school and boy, it’s comfortable.
I love the maroon shade, but it’s also available in cognac, black, and a shimmering gold.
This backpack is ideal if you like to keep bags in pockets. Like a snack bag; a small bag with a change of clothes; a storage bag for diapers and towels only. There is a lot of freedom here so that you can create your own organizational system.
With its vegan leather, this bag is also environmentally conscious.
If you are looking for low cost – this bag is it. Under $ 25 and on Amazon Prime! It is also very cute and has a lot of positive reviews.
There are many small pockets and this backpack was designed for the mother who needs a storage aid. So you have a pre-planned place where all your items can be kept. It’s great because they thought of everything, but the downside is that you don’t have a lot of options to change where you keep things when their pre-made bags don’t suit you best.
If you just want to try the mom backpack trend, this bag is a great entry point.
If you are looking for a great travel backpack this is a good choice. I took this mother backpack on several trips and it was fantastic.
This bag is sturdy enough to slide under an airplane seat and cute enough to receive compliments from mothers who line up behind you when it comes to safety.
There is so much space in this bag that I could pack enough snacks to make a 2-year-old happy on a 7-hour roach flight from Hawaii.
Basically, this backpack is magical for mothers.
The Calpak backpack is not designed as a diaper bag. It is therefore ideal if you do not have children who are a little older and do not need bottles.
I love this bag and wear it to work or when traveling. I often use it when running errands or working in a cafe. There are two sizes, one for a 13-inch laptop and one for a 15-inch laptop (shown).
There is plenty of space in the pockets and they are deep so you can carry some items. Perfect for coloring books and iPads.
Since this is not made as a diaper bag, it is not a wipeable material, but it is very durable.
