* The official form of your district looks a little different.
If you have a 5th grade daughter, you are likely to receive information about your daughter’s transition to middle school, and Girlstart would like to work on one of the most important things you and your daughter have to do with this information: Choose yours courses.
You and / or your daughter will find a form regarding the class options available to you in middle school. Our vision for the choices of every girl start girl in middle school can be found above.
Girlstart recommends choosing Advanced (sometimes called PreAP or PAP) for math and science as soon as your district provides it. By participating in Girlstart, your daughter has had a unique experience, completing 10 to 40 hours more science and math than most students. Her daughter is therefore better prepared for advanced science and math courses in middle school, and choosing these advanced science and math courses leaves her options open in high school and college.
In addition, we recommend choosing a STEM-related elective or additional program if it is available at your school or in your community. If you have any questions about the course selection process, we recommend that you speak to your daughter’s teacher or school advisor. They can help you give advice on which courses are offered in the middle and advanced levels and which great options your daughter can expect.
We hope that you and your daughter feel empowered by working for your daughter and helping you plan ahead dream big for her future as she goes on adventures in middle school and beyond.
