It was an honor to listen to General John F. Kelly, former White House chief of staff and Minister of Homeland Security, and to meet him on Monday, January 27, during the first lecture at the Ringling College Library Association’s Town Hall Lecture Series , I have been in the association for several years and this is my third year on the board.
The series introduced me to great minds and inspiring ideas that I would never have known. It also encouraged me to think about my world and challenge my ideas.
Below are some of my takeaways from John Kellys Appearance and Q&A …
John Kelly about John Bolton
As the national media reported, Kelly said “John Bolton is an honest guy” and believes what Bolton wrote in his book about Trump to be true.
General John Kelly as Minister of Internal Security
Kelly liked to be Minister of Homeland Security and the people he worked with. He was called to the White House on a Friday to meet with Trump, who offered him the position of chief of staff. Kelly said he would think about it over the weekend and come back with it. Kelly claims 10 minutes after leaving the White House Trump tweeted Kelly was the new chief of staff.
General John Kelly on Trump’s presidential qualification
Donald Trump “is not qualified to be president and nobody is.” Not Mr. Obama. Not Mr. Bush. Not Lincoln. But a good president will listen to his advisors.
John Kelly on the southwestern US border
“Most people illegally entering the United States are not bad people,” but they are looking for a better opportunity. He admits that what happens to drug trafficking at the south-western border is bad.
General John Kelly and Kim Jong-un
While sitting across from North Korea’s top leader Kim Jong-un, he wanted to “kick his dollar.”
John Kelly’s day started at …
As Chief of Staff of the White House, he arrived at the White House at 4:15 a.m. every day!
John Kelly on Obtaining Information
Kelly praised Ringling College Library Association Town Hall Lecturer series to provide a forum where leaders and ideas can come together and listen. It encourages people to get their messages from different sources and make decisions instead of listening to a network / news source.
John Kellys Fashion
Why the hat in the photo? He injured his head and said only that it was a tree and a chainsaw. Ouch!
