(New York, NY) January 28, 2020: In the latest confirmation of unilateral support by the Trump administration for Israeli control and annexation, the President today published a so-called “peace plan” together with Protestant Christians and extremist Jewish Israeli settler leaders, but without Palestinians Part made by his son-in-law and already rejected by the Palestinians.

At a time when both President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu are pushing their political campaigns, the dying peace plan is unlikely to produce results beyond the encouragement of the extremist Israeli settler movement – and possibly distract them from their election campaigns. In essence, the plan, like the Trump administration itself, is dishonest, inhumane, and ineffective.

The 80-page Farcical Plan provides for Israeli settlement blocks in the occupied West Bank to remain under Israeli control; that Jerusalem would be Israel’s “undivided” capital; and that a form of a Palestinian state would also be created, although it remains unclear what level of sovereignty this would entail. The plan also includes an economic incentive package that was unveiled at the Bahrain conference last year and incorporates an economic approach with the carrot and stick that addresses the fact that the greatest obstacles to Palestinian prosperity and economic growth are the Israeli occupation of the West Bank completely ignores the Israeli military siege of Gaza.

Under Trump, the United States reversed its position and opposed international law regarding the illegality of Israeli settlements, the annexation of the Golan Heights and the status of Jerusalem, while massively cutting humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

Rabbi Alissa Wise, Acting Managing Director of the Jewish Voice for Peace, said,

“This is by no means a peace plan – it is an apartheid plan. It is a diversionary act by two warmongers who put their personal election campaign ahead of any appearance of statecraft. International law, global consensus and decades of US politics are in agreement, that Trump cannot give away Palestinian land and steal Netanyahu. The only way to lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians is through justice, freedom and equality for all. ”

Jewish voice for peace is a grassroots national organization that, according to Jewish tradition, is committed to a just and lasting peace that complies with the principles of human rights, equality and international law for all people in Israel and Palestine. JVP has over 500,000 online supporters, over 70 chapters, a youth wing, a rabbinical council, an artist council, an academic advisory board, and an advisory board composed of leading US intellectuals and artists.
