A cool character building exercise by comic artist Lynda Barry Writing

January is often a good time to turn the writing routine upside down, explore different solutions to recurring problems in your book, and be inspired by those who have overcome the barrier.

This week I want to welcome Lynda Barry, who has a cool idea for character development. look at that shortcut by Lit Hub (if it doesn’t work, go to lithub.org and search for their name).

Barry’s exercise can be done as a doodle, a simple brainstorming session, or as a serious task – the choice is yours. It’s fun and it works. You only need paper and pen. The link above takes you to a page where she demonstrates the process using her own comics.
