POLY staff goes on strike : Nigerian Education

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the management of the Federal Polytechnic Bida to meet their needs.

The strike announcement was signed by Union chairwoman Ruth Bawa and her secretary Salihu Mohammed Almustapha after the congress at which the decision was made.

“The ultimatum is apparently in line with the academic staff union of the universities of applied sciences, which has been on strike since November last year,” the statement said.

According to the Union, the ultimatum is issued after the national leadership of the association has ordered that it is compatible with the SSANIP constitution.

The Academic Personnel Union of the Polytechnic Institute (ASUP) had requested payment of remaining gaps in members’ wages, non-payment of allowances, the secret recruitment of 141 employees without due process, and the withdrawal of requests to some of their members before they started their strike break up.
