BSUM Available postgraduate courses and requirements

  1. Applicants must first and foremost meet the relevant O-level requirements for a first degree from Benue State University:
    1. English credit is required for all courses.
    2. A credit in math is required for all science courses, management sciences, economics and faculty of environmental science;
    3. A mathematics pass is required for other social science and non-scientific courses. Psychology requires at least a degree in biology or health science;

    5. A degree in literature for Level O literature is required for courses in the English, Language and Linguistics, Theater Arts and Law departments. A literature reference is required for language classes.

    7. NCE English Major is acceptable instead of level 0 literature;

  2. Master's programs (M.Sc, M.A. and M.Ed)
    Applicants must have, in addition to (i) a first relevant degree with a minimum of second-class subclasses from Benue State University or a university recognized by the Senate of Benue State University.

    • For the Master's degree in Physiology and Anatomy, applicants must have a B.Sc. First or second class in physiology from the university or another university recognized by the Senate of Benue State University,
    • Medical graduates from this university or another university recognized by the Senate of Benue State University who are fully registered as doctors with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
    • For the Master's program in Mathematics and Computer Science, applicants must have a B.Sc. Mathematics or computer science from the university or another university recognized by the Senate of Benue State University with a CGPA of at least 3.00. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in related fields such as mathematics didactics, statistics, math / statistics, statistics / computer science or PID in mathematics or a related field with a minimum score of 3.00 / 5.00 can be considered for M.     • Candidates with PGDM degrees from recognized universities that have a minimum credit (GPA 3.50) can also be considered for admission, provided the university's enrollment requirements are met.

  4. Doctor of Philosophy Programs (PhD)
    Candidates who are listed in addition to (i & ii) above must have a good Master's degree with a CGPA of at least 3.50 or a grade “B” from Benue State University or a university recognized by the Senate of Benue State University ,

    • For the doctorate. History, candidates with a Master of Philosophy degree may be admitted to the program, or candidates who do not have a Master of Arts in History must attend 800 courses for an academic session.
    • For doctoral programs at the Faculty of Education and at the Faculty of Business Administration of the Faculty of Economics, applicants must also take a written and oral exam.
    • In addition, candidates for doctoral programs in the curriculum and teaching department and in the corporate management department must consult the department head to find out whether managers are available in the areas they want to specialize in before applying.
    • For the doctorate. Laws should be accompanied by a research proposal.

  5. Master of Health Management (MHM)

    • Any degree in medicine (MBBS and BDS). Degree in Pharmacy and Honors Degree in Nursing and other medical degrees.
    • Advanced Diploma in Health Management from Benue State University with a minimum CREDIT pass average and other relevant postgraduate diplomas / qualifications. In addition, applicants must have the requirements listed under (i).
  6. Master of Business Administration (MBA)

    • Minimum of the Second Class Lower Division with a bachelor's degree in business administration / management, accounting, banking & finance, marketing, management, economics from recognized universities.
    • Applicants must have achieved a satisfactory level of performance in the admission test and in the university interview.
    • Candidates with PGDM degrees from recognized universities that have a minimum credit (GPA 3.50) can also be considered for admission, provided the university's enrollment requirements are met.

  7. Postgraduate diploma in planning studiesThe department offers a 12-month program that leads to the award of the postgraduate diploma for planning studies. Planned applicants are expected to:

    • University entrance (WASC or NECO in no more than 2 sessions) must include at least 5 credits and include English and Mathematics, as well as three subjects from the following subjects: geography, chemistry, biology or agricultural science, economics, technical drawing, OR
    • Have a general education certificate (GCE O-Level) in 5 subjects at credit level and at least one credit in mathematics and 2 subjects from the following subjects: geography, chemistry, biology or agricultural science, economics, technical drawing, NABTEB, AND
    • Bachelor's degree in geography, economics, sociology, psychology, estate administration, civil engineering, architecture or civil engineering or urban and regional planning with at least 3rd Honors or an HND in urban and regional planning, architecture or estate administration with at least a credit level pass.
  8. Postgraduate diploma in computer science
    The faculty stipulates that a candidate must continue his studies for at least 3 semesters and a maximum of 4 semesters from the date of enrollment.

    • The candidate must have a basic qualification for undergraduate studies (5 credits, including English and math).
    • At least 3rd Degree in computer science or CGPA 2.00 for computer science graduates or lower credit points for HND graduates.
    • Candidates who do not have a university degree or a university degree in computer science, but who have at least 2nd The Lower Degree class in engineering, architecture, mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics and geography can be included in the PGD of computer science or another relevant discipline.

BSUM Postgraduate Guidelines

All courses begin with the coursework and end with the project for postgraduate diplomas or the dissertation and final thesis for master's or PhD degrees. The duration of the courses is as follows:

on. Construction diploma programs is at least one year and at most two years.

b. Master's programs is usually one academic year for full-time and two years for part-time candidates. As a rule, the duration may not exceed two years for full-time and three years for part-time candidates.

c. Doctoral degree programs is typically three years for full-time and five years for part-time candidates. The duration must not exceed five years for full-time and seven years for part-time candidates.

NOTE: Applicants must request their previous institutions to forward their academic records to the secretary of the Benue State University Postgraduate School in Makurdi. (Transcripts to be recorded with transcription application forms that should be printed out on the portal).

BSUM Postgraduate Application Guide

  1. Applicants are to be visited https://portal.bsum.edu.ng/postGraduate.jsp and fill out and submit some pre-registration information. After submitting, an application number is generated. Print out a copy of the pre-registration form.
  2. Applicants will then be forwarded to the specified bank (fidelity) with the printed copy of the pre-registration form and will pay a non-refundable application fee of N 10,000 using the generated application number.
  3. After payment, applicants are expected to revisit the Benue State University portal under Application and click Postgraduate to fill out the application form. Then upload your academic certificates and other relevant documents and submit them online. Please print out the completed form for reference.
  4. Applicants must ensure that the three referees complete the online reference forms.
  5. Please note that applications without relevant documents will not be considered.

Guidelines for completing application forms:

Applicants should provide all of the information requested in the form. Applications with incomplete information are void. Proposed course of study with a clear indication of the subject, if applicable. Applicants should ensure that their official academic credentials are passed on from their former universities to the Postgraduate School. Applications without official certificates will not be processed. A candidate can only apply for admission to a course of study / diploma at any given time.

Deadline The registration period is 30 days from the date of notification, after which an additional fee will be charged for registration.
