We are very happy to share a post from Heather 4 radical roadschoolers and a fat cat, Heather and her family LOVE Disney and they go as often as they can. That is why Heather is of course the perfect person to give you an overview of Disney Magic Bands. Enjoy!
The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has been called the happiest place in the world for a reason. If you’re going there soon, you want to have a Disney Magic Band for everyone in your family. Read on to find out how to get one, why you want one, and what they are for.
How do I get a Disney Magic Band?
There are several ways to start a Disney Magic Band.
Spend the night at a Disney World Resort
If you stay at a Disney World Resort, you will automatically receive free Disney Magic Bands for all members of your travel group about 1-2 weeks before your arrival. If you do not order them on time, they will be ready for you when you arrive at the resort.
Follow the steps to choose your colors and confirm your shipping address. Otherwise you get the simple gray ones.
Note: The advantage of shipping is that you have them for the magical express bus when you fly to Orlando. And you’ll already need to bring them to your room when you do an express check-in.
Buy an annual pass
When you buy a Disney World annual pass, you receive a free magic ribbon with each annual pass. Again, follow the steps to choose your colors and check your shipping address. Otherwise you get the simple gray ones.
Purchase on the Disney website
If you don’t plan to stay at a Disney resort hotel or purchase an annual pass, you can purchase Magic Bands on the Disney website. They can also be bought in many stores in Disney Parks and Disney Springs. Prices start at $ 14.99.
Do they ship to all countries?
Unfortunately, Disney doesn’t ship to all countries. If Disney doesn’t ship to your country, don’t worry. Your magicians await you when you check in at your resort hotel.
My Disney Experience app
If you’re planning a Disney World vacation, it’s a good idea to set up a free My Disney Experience account at Disney site and download the app for your phone. The My Disney Experience app lets you manage all of your Disney plans, including resort reservations, FastPass + selections, meal plans, and magic tapes.
You can also order magic tapes for all members of your travel group on the My Disney Experience website.
You can also check in online through My Disney Experience. The advantage of this is that you can enter special requests such as the location of the room.
If your room is ready for you when you arrive at the resort, you don’t even have to go to the check-in desk. With your MagicBand you can go straight to your room as your MagicBand is your room key.
When you order your Disney MagicBands for your resort hotel or annual pass, you have the option of choosing one of several colors or a special edition of MagicBand with selected Disney characters and film themes. The solid color ribbons are free, while the themed ribbons typically cost between $ 10 and $ 15.
** Don’t skip this step or you’ll get the boring gray ones!
How long does it take to get it
Your Disney MagicBands will usually be at your home 1-2 weeks before your vacation. They arrive in a simple, white box, but the inside is full of colorful magic.
If you select the single-colored ribbons, you can customize them yourself by removing the inner Mickey with a small screwdriver and replacing it with a different-colored magic ribbon.
Can you keep it
As soon as you have received your magic tapes, you can keep them. If you spend more than one vacation at Disney World, you can choose new magic tapes each time. The old are still working, so hold on to them. We want to get different colors every time we go, and now we have a collection of different colors to choose from.
Change the size of your Magic Band
If a magic band is too big for the smaller members of your family, you can tear off the outer gray area of the magic band to form a smaller band. The green ribbon in the picture above shows a magic ribbon, the outer gray section of which has been torn off. The pink ribbon shows annual passport holder jewelry that can only be added to the magic ribbon for fun.
What are Disney Magic Bands used for?
There are several useful reasons to start Disney Magic Bands.
Disney Magical Express bus
When you fly to Orlando International Airport and take the Disney Magical Express to your resort, you need your magic ribbon to check in for the Magical Express bus. For this reason, it is important that your magic tapes are easily accessible after landing in Orlando. So don’t stow them in your checked baggage.
Disney Resort Hotel room keys
When you arrive in your Disney Resort hotel room, your magic ribbon serves as a room key. It is not necessary to have a room key with you all day. Simply wear your magic ribbon and you will always have your room key with you. The door of your hotel room has a magic band scanner that you can use to tap your magic band with the Mickey Mouse to open the door.
Disney Theme Park ticket
The magic band also contains your ticket information for all Disney theme parks and Disney water parks. You can scan your magic tape at every park entrance so that you don’t have to worry about bringing your parking tickets with you.
To prevent people from trying to enter the park with someone else’s magic ribbon, you need to scan your fingerprint the first time you enter Disney Park with your magic ribbon. Every time you enter a park afterwards, you have to scan your tape and your fingerprint.
Disney FastPass +
Your magic tape also contains all of your FastPass + information. So if you come to a trip during your pass time, simply scan your band at the FastPass + kiosk and you can board the trip without waiting in the regular standby mode. Fast passes are a great way to save time on some of the most popular rides in the park.
FastPass + tips
If some members of your group are not interested in driving one of your FastPass selections, you can use their magic tapes to re-enter the ride on the FastPass line. To do this, simply scan your own band the first time you board the Fast Pass Line and use another family member’s band the first time you board the Ride Line.
When staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, you can make your FastPass selection 60 days in advance. I know that it is difficult to know in advance which park you go to each day and which rides you want to go, but this is the best way to get quick passes for some of the most popular rides.
Some of the most difficult passes to get are Avatar Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Frozen Ever After in Epcot and Slinky Dog Dash in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I would strongly recommend making this FastPass selection in the 60 day window.
In the My Disney Experience app, you can select up to 3 quick tickets for each day of your holiday, which are valid in a single park. Once you’ve used all 3 FastPass passes for the day, you can make additional FastPass selections for the same park or another park if you plan to park hopping.
If you plan to spend the whole day in one or more Disney parks, I would recommend choosing your 3 Fast Pass times early in the day so that you can choose additional Fast Pass times later in the day.
One thing we like to do is go back to the resort in the afternoon to cool off in the pool and rest for a while. We always choose a new quick pass that we can use as soon as we return to the park later in the day.
With the “My Disney Experience” app you can easily select new fast cards for the whole day. I would recommend choosing a new quick card as soon as possible after choosing your third quick card.
Disney actors are also available at the FastPass + kiosks in the park to help you add new FastPass selections to your magic bands.
Note: some attractions are not available for a quick pass, such as the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attractions. Pity!
Another convenient way to use your magic ribbon is to use a credit card while visiting Disney Parks. You can set up loading rights for some or all of the magicians within your travel group by visiting the My Disney Experience app or when you arrive at your resort hotel.
Fees apply only to stays at a Disney resort hotel. The fees will be added to your bill at the end of your stay.
Select a PIN number to use when charging your magic ribbon to buy food or goods. Then it’s just a simple touch of the band, insert the pen and you’re done. This ensures that only authorized users can charge your Magic Band.
If you don’t want the kids to buy everything in sight, you can limit the top-up privileges to the adults in your group.
Another use for magicians is to use the Disney PhotoPass service. In Disney Parks you will find Disney PhotoPass photographers who take pictures of your family. The photographer scans your magic tape and you can see and / or buy all of your photos in the My Disney Experience app.
Disney PhotoPass also takes photos and videos of you on certain trips. You can view these images at the end of the ride and also in the My Disney Experience app.
Lost Magic Band
Disney Magic Bands have your first name in the band if you have the same ribbon as someone else in your group. If you lose your band, just visit a guest relations office or the concierge at your resort hotel. These can help you deactivate the band and activate a new band.
Magic Band Magic
You can even find some surprises in the Disney parks while wearing your magic ribbons. Keep your eyes open to see your name or the names of your family members on the driving lines or on the rides. When we arrived at the end of the “It’s a small world” ride in the Magic Kingdom, we noticed our names on the screen.
