1. Rolf's German bar and restaurant

Rolfs is a classic, but reservations for December fill months in advance. Come early in the year when it's almost empty. During the holidays, prices rise and often they hurry to finish eating or drinking within an hour and a half to attract new guests. Even with a reservation, you can be in a queue outside. It is still a favorite place for me, but I like to visit it in summer or autumn when they are open for the day so that I have almost all the space to myself.

What are you doing for NYE? It always sneaks up on me, so start the conversation by sending these Times Square alternatives to your friends! 1. Ask your financial friends who have a view of Times Square and the ball throw to celebrate in their office! I actually did this year and it was epic, some streets around Times Square are incredibly quiet and we had a warm view of the Ball Drop and all the food and drink we wanted! 2. Theme party at Pier A: Last New Year's Eve, I attended the mask party at Pier A and liked the stress-free, upscale venue with delicious food and drinks. There were several areas for dancing and different songs in each area and a jazz band that made the New Year with my best friends something very special! @piera_nyc 3rd NYRR Midnight Run: Instead of missing out on the New Year, celebrate healthier by running the annual Midnight Run of the New York Road Runners. Start the four-mile run that qualifies for the 2018 New York City Marathon at 10 p.m. with a dance. This is the best start for a healthy New Year's care on the right foot! Register before 5 p.m. on December 31. @Nyrr 4. Free Staten Island Ferry Ride: If you choose the right time, you can take the free Staten Island Ferry with the best skyline views and lots of fireworks for FREE! Make sure you arrive early and bring warm shifts! What is your favorite way to start the new year?

2. Eataly SERRA from Birreria Seasonal Rooftop

SERRA by Birreria is the seasonal restaurant and bar on the roof of Eataly. It is located on the top floor of Eataly's Flatiron, NYC. The Italian greenhouse is closed, but the seasonal decor is always impressively decadent and transformative. I love the wintry alpine landscapes at this time of year. The ceiling is covered with white lights, so every portrait photo on your phone or camera is truly stunning. I recommend combining the wines with a cheese board. Although the bar can get crowded when you get a table, you won't feel crowded at all. Tables have a lot more space these winter months than most other seasonal spots.

3. Miracle on the 9th and Miracle on the 12th popup bar

There are two pop-up locations in Manhattan. Miracle on 9 opens at 1pm and Miracle on the 12th opens at 4 p.m. The wonder Pop-up was born when a cocktail bar owner decided to overdo the decoration of his unfinished NYC bar and serve vacation-themed drinks. Miracle has done so well that there are now locations worldwide. I counted 108 places on their website and personally visited some versions of their bars in NYC over the years. The mismatched Christmas decorations are intentionally exaggerated and look like forgotten relics in your grandmother's attic that are now trending. Each drink comes in a different retro-style mug that reflects a fun name like SanTaRex, which comes in a red hat with a green dinosaur mug. I had the Christmas story Barrel, which was the right amount of sweet, and my friend got the sweetest drink, the Bad Santa Drink, that comes in the Santa Claus mug.
