The new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Lillian Salami, resumed her duties on Monday. She becomes the second Vice Chancellor of the institution after Grace Alele-Williams.
Salami addressed staff and students of the institution and asked for their support and cooperation so that she can compete with others worldwide.
The Professor of Physical Education and Health Education is the 10th VC of UNIBEN.
"We need to use our strength through collaboration to take the university to a new level and keep its pride among the best universities," she said.
"My administration will invest in innovation curricula and teaching to provide better teaching methods and practical experience for our students. This ensures that our students worldwide are marketable and relevant to current and future demand. "
She said that she had always done well in all the skills she had held before her current appointment at the university.
"There is no doubt that we have challenges, but these challenges are surmountable and I am here to meet these challenges. The reasons why we are here are primarily for the students. We would take care of the housing, the structure and the welfare of the employees. "We have to have a very favorable environment. We can not produce hoodlums. We need a student-friendly environment so they can learn better, "she added.
Salami promised to build on the accomplishments of his predecessor in order to lead the institution into an era of modern and first-class learning institutions.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of the immediate past, Prof. Faraday Olunmwense, described salami as a very proactive and progressive-minded person who will take the university to a higher level.
Prior to taking office, Salami was executive secretary of the National Institute for Education and Public Administration (NIEPA).
