Representatives of the River State have won in the 2019 edition of the Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition.
Emmanuela David and Prosper Barikpoa, both from the Pue Primary School Primary School in the local Khana River Government, impressed judges and audiences to take the first position.
They were followed by the representatives of the Ogun State, who finished in 2nd place, and Enugu, who finished in 3rd place.
The grand finale of the Literacy Contest took place on November 7 at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.
Spelling and writing competitions were held among contenders from the six geopolitical areas of Nigeria after the regional finals.

In his welcoming message, Lafarge Africa Plc Chairman Mobolaji Balogun said he was pleased with the success over the years and reiterated that Lafarge Africa would continue to help fight illiteracy in the country.
"At Lafarge Africa, we know that the government can not do it all on its own. At the same time, we recognize the importance of education and the need to close the illiteracy gap in Nigeria. That's why Lafarge Africa's national literacy competition is very important to us, "he said.
Michel Puchercos, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, placed the competition for the company's overall sustainable development strategy on four cornerstones: climate, circular economy, water and nature, people and communities.

At the end of the competition, the winners came home with different prizes.
